On the morning of Tuesday 28th June, 1960, 45 men were killed in an explosion at the Arrael Griffin Colliery at Six Bells, Abertillery, South Wales. Among them were three fathers and their sons, and twin brothers aged 21.
Six days later, Ebenezer Baptist Church in Abertillery was packed for the town's service of commemoration.
The hymn sheet lists each man who died. The hymns acknowledge the questions arising from such disaster, but also express faith and hope.
Submitted by Roy Jenkins, who was at the service in his first week as a reporter for the South Wales Gazette.
