This is one of the first pictures of Glastonbury Carnival. A Somerset tradition which goes back to Guy Fawkes' failed attempt to blow up parliament, carnival involves decorated carts parade through towns across the county. Glastonbury Carnival is part of one of the main circuits which also visits towns including Bridgwater, Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-on-Sea and Midsomer Norton.
Pat Thick from Glastonbury Carnival Committee said the event is all about friendship. "There's an absolute spirit that people get together to produce magnificant carts. It can't be equalled," she said. Ms Thick added that one year they took carnival to the Easter Parade in London, where people there were overwhelmed by the carts and could not believe that this happens in Somerset every year.
