Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Reading Rockstars

Dan from Reading band Does It Offend You, Yeah? gets all homesick when chatting to 成人论坛 Radio Berkshire's Linda Serck. Reading and listen to the interview below.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? may have a single out called We Are Rockstars but, far from embracing the whirlwind lifestyle of a successful band, the Reading lads are very much pining for their hometown.

"We used to all go to The Turtle and then go straight on to the After Dark at 11pm - ah I feel really sad now!"

Dan Coop

Synth player Dan Coop chatted to The Session Introducing's Linda Serck about Reading life and the local music scene, and how the town has helped them become the band they are today.

Listen to the full interview here or read extracts below:

You're all originally from Reading aren't you.

"Everyone apart from (singer) Morgan is from Reading. I was originally from Earley then I moved to the Coley part of Reading. James is more heading up to Pangbourne-way and then Rob is at Wokingham Road - he's still there!

"I'm living out of a backpack now. Because our touring is pretty much constant we have just two days off this year, so there's no point having a place in Reading anymore. I've just put all my stuff in storage up by Rivermead."

Dan: 'I miss the After Dark!'

I like the Greetings From Reading card on your MySpace site featuring such gems as the boarded-up bus station and RG1's!

"I miss that place! I went once in the 80s when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came out and they had a party there - I think I was about eight or nine - and it was called Washington Heights back then. That was my first taste of nightclubbing in Reading. They gave out free pizza and stuff!"

Do you miss Reading? Did it play a part in inspiring you to make and write music?

"Yeah me and James (Rushent - bass/vocals) used to run lots and lots of parties in Reading. We used to run a sound system called Junction 10 years ago and used to do naughty things like breaking into warehouses and putting on parties. But then we grew out of that.

"I used to DJ at drum 'n' bass nights in Reading - in places like the Boxing Club, The Matrix and Central Club, and then other things as well.

"I used to go down the After Dark club every Friday night, I miss that place so much!

"I miss all my friends in Reading as well. We used to all go to The Turtle and then go straight on to the After Dark at 11pm - ah I feel really sad now!"

Does It Offend You, Yeah? at Cambridge

You've just come off an NME tour, and you say it was one of the best tours you ever been on.

"Every night the whole crowd went crazy. I've only been interested in playing in a band since I got in this one, and I never thought we'd get everyone in the Brixton Academy putting their hands in the air.

"Or when we played in Oxford with lots of our friends there, just seeing people in the crowd who you know just going crazy...".

Does seeing your mates make a difference? At Reading Festival for example did you see your friends there as well?

"I could see my dad halfway to the back and that really put me off!

"I actually played the last song we were going to play midway through the set by accident because I wasn't concentrating.

"Everyone turned around and looked at me as they all started paying something else. But it went down really well, we all had really good fun."

The title of your new album, You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into - is that possibly advice you could give to unsigned bands who want to start off in the same vein as you?

"Yeah. This industry is on the decline so it's very hard for bands to get signed, I'd say.

"Our label Virgin and EMI are on the decline now, but keep sticking at it. If you're good then start playing in London cos that's where all the A&R people hang out. "
