The first of the 120,000 visitors expected to visit the 2006 Crufts dog show over the next four days, were greeted on Thursday morning by five NEC halls full of all things canine.听

The organisers assure us that 20,000 dogs, of 178 different breeds, are taking part in demonstrations, competitions and displays. Working and Pastoral dogs were shown on Thursday 9th of March, Terriers and Hounds on the 10th, Toy and Utility on the 11th and Gundogs will be shown on the 12th. As well as the famous Best in Show Competition, there's Agility, Flyball, Obedience and Heelwork to Music, the Good Citizen Dog Scheme displays and the Kennel Gazette Junior Warrant Winner of the Year competition final. Four hundred trade stands packed with everything for dogs and their owners are doing very brisk business, too.

Dog fans travel from all over the UK and the world to visit Crufts. Jo and mum Rosemary, from Southampton, summed it up: "We came because we've got dogs and we love dogs. There's nothing like Crufts. We've really enjoyed it. We're going back home happy."
