Lucy: Hi, I'm Lucy.

Nadiya: What's on your head today?

Lucy: I wear this on my head. But why do you think I wear it?

Girl 1: Some kind of robot helmet?

Girl 2: A helmet where you can listen to music.

Boy 1: A parachute guy.

Girl 1: Looks like a little bit of a ninja.

Nadiya: None of these are right. Do you want a clue?

Boys 2 & 3: Yeah. Yeah.

Lucy: OK. So… I wear it for my job. I go up very high in the sky and I help lots of different people.

Nadiya: Can you guess what it is now?

Girl 1: ����…

Boy 1: Ambulance helmet.

Girl 1: This is really hard.

Boy 4: An aeroplane doctor.

Girl 1: A pilot helmet?

Girl 2: I'm an astronaut.

Boy 5: A helicopter helmet.

Boy 1: Oh!

Nadiya: So, Lucy, what is it you do?

Lucy: I am a helicopter paramedic.

Nadiya: Wow, that sounds like an amazing job. So, what is that on your head?

Lucy: This is my helicopter helmet.

Nadiya: How do you say that?

Lucy: You say… helicopter helmet.

Girls 2 & 3: Helicopter paramedic helmet.

Nadiya: So, what do you do as a helicopter paramedic?

Lucy: A helicopter paramedic goes to someone when they’re very poorly and needs to go to hospital as quickly as possible.

Boy 5: When people get hurt, they have to go up in a helicopter ambulance.

Girl 1: Nee-naw, nee-naw.

Nadiya: Why do you have to wear a helmet?

Lucy: My job could be quite dangerous, I suppose. Helicopters fly a lot lower in the air than aeroplanes, so whilst aeroplane pilots don't have to wear helmets, we do. This is because we are much more likely to be hit by something when we’re flying, like a naughty bird that's got much too close to us.

And if that happens, this will protect us from it so we can land the helicopter safely.

Boy 5: Is it too big?

Girl 1: Did you feel that?

Boy 4: He's very safe.

Girl 2: I can't hear you!

Boy 1: OK, I'm stuck.

Lucy: The main part of the helmet is here to protect our head. We've then got two visors which slide down. One's clear and one's like sunglasses in case it's a sunny day.

Boys 1 & 5: To protect… To protect your eyes… the eyes.

Lucy: I’ve got a curly-whirly, which plugs into the helicopter, so that I can hear what the pilot’s saying, and I can listen through these earphones.

Boy 4: They can hear anyone in their ears that talks to them.

Lucy: There's a microphone so that he can hear what I'm saying and a chinstrap so that it’s securely on. My helmet's really nice and solid, so if I was hit by anything in the head, I'd be nice and safe.

Nadiya: What does it feel like to wear, Lucy?

Lucy: It is quite heavy and it has to be quite tight-fitting so it's very snug, so it can get quite hot. But I know that one day it could save my life, so I don't mind wearing it.
