INTERIOR STUDIO - DAY - MARTIN is listening to a record sitting on the desk. It is the classical piece: Peer Gynt - Morning. He is lost in thought.
EXTERIOR FIELD - DAY - Martin is imagining himself in a field on a lovely summer day. He begins to dance around the field. He turns again and again until suddenly CARA is standing in front of him.
CARA: MARTIN!
Record scratch.
INTERIOR STUDIO - DAY - Martin is startled by Cara.
MARTIN: Cara! I didn鈥檛 hear you come in. I was lost in this music, it鈥檚 so relaxing! At least it was until you came in.
CARA: Shouldn鈥檛 you be setting up for the new video?
MARTIN: Video?
CARA: The Music club video?
MARTIN: Music club video?
CARA: Where we talk about new songs and say what we like or don鈥檛 like about them?
MARTIN: (lying) Right, right yeah I remember.
CARA: You get set up and I鈥檒l get ready for the video.
MARTIN: Ok.
Cara leaves. Martin turns on his music again and gets lost in the music.
CARA (OFF STAGE): Martin!
TITLE SEQUENCE.
INTERIOR STUDIO - DAY
CARA: Hi guys! Cara here along with my musical Martian鈥
Martin looks off in the distance, after a second Cara looks at him and nudges him.
MARTIN: What?
CARA: Say your name!
MARTIN: Whjinsoidnfsodfn
CARA: Not that one, the other one!
MARTIN: Martin?!
CARA: That鈥檚 right guys, and we鈥檙e here to bring you this week鈥檚 most on fire tracks! So let鈥檚 not waste any more time, talking, Martin?
Martin is lost again.
MARTIN: Huh?
CARA: Play. The. Track.
MARTIN: Of course! With what?
CARA: You didn鈥檛 bring the speakers?!
INTERIOR STUDIO - YESTERDAY - Martin is leaving the studio.
CARA (OFF STAGE): Martin don鈥檛 forget the speakers tomorrow!
MARTIN: Forget the speakers. Got it.
INTERIOR STUDIO - DAY
CARA: What about your phone, we can play it off that?
INTERIOR STUDIO - YESTERDAY - Martin is leaving the house.
CARA (OFF STAGE): Martin don鈥檛 forget your phone tomorrow either!
MARTIN: Forget my phone. Got it.
INTERIOR STUDIO
MARTIN: Can鈥檛 we use your phone?
CARA: No Martin, we can鈥檛! Because some extra terrestrial troublemaker decided to test the warranty on it!
INTERIOR ROOM - DAY - Martin is taking a hammer to Cara鈥檚 phone.
MARTIN: Unbreakable my foot!
INTERIOR STUDIO
CARA: Martin you:-
MARTIN: Cara! Just before you continue I think I have to warn you. We鈥檙e still recording.
CARA: Arrrrgh! Cut!
Cara turns the camera off.
CARA: Well this week鈥檚 video is like my phone. Completely ruined.
MARTIN: I kinda feel that was aimed at me.
CARA: What are we gonna do now?!
Martin eyes up the record player.
MARTIN: Wait a minute! The records.
Martin opens his briefcase and grabs a large stack of old 7 inch singles.
CARA: No Martin, that鈥檚 old music. Nobody is listening to that these days. We鈥檙e not putting that on at music club.
MARTIN: Well why don鈥檛 we try one first before we dismiss it. You know that old saying, never judge a book by it鈥檚 words.
CARA: It鈥檚 never judge a book by it鈥檚 cover!
MARTIN: Oh! I鈥檝e been doing it wrong all these years.
Martin takes the first record and puts it on the record player. It鈥檚 on the wrong speed and is very slow.
CARA: It鈥檚 a bit slow.
MARTIN: It could just be the intro.
The singing comes in, it鈥檚 super slow.
CARA: I think your record player might be broken.
MARTIN: (in slow motion) Let me have a look.
Martin switches a button on the record player and it plays as normal.
CARA: Oh yes! Rock! I love this music. Listen to that guitar!
Martin covers his ears.
MARTIN: Turn it off, it鈥檚 killing me, it鈥檚 killing me!
CARA: Drum solo!
Cara air drums along to the drum solo. A record scratch, the music stops.
CARA: Whoa, what happened.
MARTIN: That鈥檚 quite enough of that weapons grade noise.
CARA: So now we鈥檝e had a sample of it, let鈥檚 vote on it. How would you describe it? For me it was ROCKING. Fast and loud with guitars and drums, AND a really great solo that was high up.
Cara does air guitar.
MARTIN: I think it sounded like something I would use on my enemies. 1.5 stars.
Martin holds up a card with 1 1/2 stars on it.
CARA: Are you cray?! That was 8 out of 10. Easy.
Cara holds up a card with 8 vegetables on it.
MARTIN: Ok my turn now.
Martin flicks through the records.
MARTIN: Ah yes, perfect.
Martin puts The Blue Danube Waltz on the record player.
MARTIN: Annnnd relax.
Martin is now wearing a tuxedo, he waltzes around the room.
CARA: Nooooope, no, no, no, no no, N to the O. NO! This stinks!
MARTIN: Hey, I wasn鈥檛 rude about your tune.
CARA: Yes you were!
MARTIN: That鈥檚 ancient history!
CARA: So is this!
MARTIN: Listen to the orchestra! The instruments! The strings! The violin! The low cello! It just makes you want to dance! LikeCinderella.
Martin picks up a stool and waltzes. Cara turns the record off.
MARTIN: Let鈥檚 vote. 9 out of 10.
CARA: 8 out of 10 for me.
MARTIN: Really?
CARA: MINUS 8 out of 10.
MARTIN: Har-de-har-har. We are never going to agree on a song.
CARA: Well what鈥檚 left?
Cara picks up another record and puts it on. There are male and female vocals on it. The production is modern but a bit 80鈥檚. The song is talking about two friends - they鈥檙e strange friends, an odd couple, but great friends. The pair nod along to it.
MARTIN: I like the male singer.
CARA: I like the keyboards.
MARTIN: Actually, the female singer is even better.
CARA: Listen to the beat!
Cara taps a 4-4 beat along to the song.
CARA: Ok, let鈥檚 score at the same time. 3鈥2鈥1!
They both hold up 10s.
CARA: We鈥檝e got our song!
INTERIOR STUDIO - DAY
CARA: Hi guys! Your musical sherpas are back with our music club and today we want to play you a song that really speaks to both of us.
MARTIN: Even with our differences!
CARA: We鈥檝e gone old school today. Phones out the window.
MARTIN: Oh, that gives me an idea!
CARA: No it doesn鈥檛! We鈥檝e gone deep into the music vault and we鈥檙e going to play a 鈥榬ecord鈥!
Martin holds up a record.
MARTIN: I know what you鈥檙e thinking. This spaceship actually plays music?! Well have a listen!
Martin puts the record on.
CARA: What do you love about the song?
MARTIN: Well, I love both voices. I love the tempo and I love the little hook they keep singing. It鈥檚 so catchy. What about you?
CARA: I love the keyboards, and the tempo! Not too fast, not too slow. I love the high notes on the keyboard and the low notes on the bass. Also, I love the arrangement of all the instruments together behind the singing.
MARTIN: And that鈥檚 why鈥
CARA: It鈥檚 Cara and Martin鈥檚鈥
CARA AND MARTIN: Song of the week!
The both hold up 10 cards.
CARA: See you all next week!
Martin and Cara wave to the camera. A beat.
CARA: You can turn the camera off now Martin.
Martin looks at the camera, he nervously laughs.
CARA: What?
MARTIN: I forgot to hit record.
EXTERIOR OUTER SPACE
CARA (OFF STAGE): MAAAAAAAAAAAARTIIIIIIIIIIIIN!!
THE END.
