Jazzy Jeff
Hi guys, how you doing? Hope you’re well. The past week has been absolutely crazy for me. Besides trying to get my dissertation done on time, which I still haven’t finished, I somehow managed to find time to throw a massive party in Cambridge where I study, and guess who I had as my special guest? The one and only DJ Jazzy Jeff! Keep reading and watch my video of Jazzy Jeff on the decks.
The first time I met him was in 2005 when I booked him to play at my club night. That particular night I didn’t really get a chance to talk to him as much I’d liked as my time was limited and also every Tom, Dick and Harry was trying to get a picture with him and with Jeff being one of my idols in the world of DJ’ing, I was definitely a bit star struck. However, this time around I got my act together and actually got a chance to say more than “hi’. The best part is that I got the opportunity to interview the man and all I can say is “what a legend”.
Not only is he one of the sickest DJ’s on this planet, he’s also an amazing producer and out of all the people I’ve interviewed on the Hype Show, he has go to be one of the most humble and down to earth guys in the business.I’ve been DJ’ing for about 11 years now and I can honestly say there has not been another DJ that has influenced me more than Jazzy Jeff. Meeting him made me reminisce about the days when I would come home from school and the first thing I’d do is put on the cassette tape of the live performance of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince in Union Square which appeared on the album "He’s The DJ I’m The Rapper”. I couldn’t tell you how many times I played the track over and over again but I didn’t stop until I learnt how to scratch by imitating what Jeff was doing. I know you’re thinking “what a loser”, but at least it kept me out of trouble ;)
Jazzy Jeff has continued to represent the true art form of DJ’ing and has managed to stay relevant after being in this business after 20 years. I can’t help but wonder, out of the new generation of up and coming DJ’s, who will still be here in another 20 years time? I guess only time will tell.

Saw Jazzy Jeff as part of his Jazzy Jeff and the Philamonics tour, in 2003 at the Jazz Cafe. He tore the joint up. COLD.
