The Brown award for bravery?

As someone who has written many times about the importance of courage in politics Gordon Brown must have appreciated the bravery of in the Commons today. It is traditional that the first two MPs who get to their feet after the Queen's speech have license to make jokes and generally poke fun at some of their colleagues.
In a very funny turn Mr Caborn (Labour, Sheffield Central) first reminded the Prime Minister of how dirty the Brown office used to be whilst the pair were in opposition in the 80s ("why couldn't he wash up his coffee cups?鈥 asked Mr Caborn).
As the camera cut to Mr Brown on the front bench trying to force a smile, Mr Caborn quoted the incomparable :
"It is never difficult to distinguish between a Scotsman with a grievance and a ray of sunshine."
Mr Brown wants to institute a new award for bravery - I think today we found our first nominee.

Brave indeed. Was Gordon Brown biting an unconcerned fingernail as Mr Caborn spoke? Or flexing an airy ankle?

I'm afraid that this initiative is coming from the wrong person. Any award for bravery instigated by Mr Brown will inevitably become known in army circles as 'The Bottle Cross'.
