Lots around today. We're hoping to have an exclusive report about Britain's nuclear security.
Iran's new top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili holds his first Tehran news conference today ahead of the release of a key IAEA nuclear watchdog report on the Iranian nuclear programme. Have the Iranian co-operated enough to reduce the chance of more sanctions?
Barry George has just won his appeal against his conviction for the murder of TV presenter Jill Dando.
The Government is seeking a compromise over its plan to extend beyond 28 days the maximum time terrorist suspects can be held without charge. Ministers are proposing that people could be detained for up to 58 days, but only in special circumstances. How would you like to do this story? Is there anything new we can bring to it?
Foreign Secretary David Miliband will give his first major speech on Britain's relations with the rest of the European Union.

SPOIL PARTY GAMES
If police want to search a house (with good reason) they get a search warrant from some, presumed, worthy.
If they want to (continue to) hold a suspect (with good reason) surely they can find a worthy to give permission for that also.
I stood for Parliament in 2005 (Newbury) to "Spoil Party Games" - see what I mean?

SCARE STORIES: When Adam Curtis produced his series 'The Power of Nightmares' not too long ago, he essentially milked what's central to behaviour science, namely that a good part of operant ('voluntary') behaviour is shaped by negative reinforcement, i.e. the relief from, (or more frequently the avoidance of), aversive stimulation (e.g. we eat more frequently in order to avoid, rather than to directly reduce hunger). Like the hyperbolic discounting function which basically quantifies impulsivity or 'self-control', once out of the lab, these principles or laws of behaviour are sadly 'exploited' by unscrupulous others in our de-regulated free-market where the ruling dictum seems to be 'caveat emptor' (invariably at the expense of the relatively more vulnerable and illiterate). The financial sector specialises in it, the political classes try to, and so does the media.
In fact, it's hard not to conclude that almost everyone's at it - but I guess that's liberal-democratic freedom folks - the alternative is, allegedly, to foster repression and encourage terrorism ;-).

Miliband (and Brown) are pushing for Turkey (population 75 million), Macedonia, Croatia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovenia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Serbia to become members.

Also, what's to stop a Prime Minister or President from going mad and sending the codes to nuke us all? Or is it that a PM could never go mad? Just like how a submarine captain could never go mad?
Continuing on the subject of madness: David Milliband's plans to extend the EU into Africa and the Middle East. He says that the EU will be good for the environment. Exactly how is Franco Frattini's plans to bring 20 million immigrants (carbon footprints) into the EU good for the environment? That's not sustainability, it's madness. Don't let Milliband or Frattini anywhere near nuclear bomb codes.

Gosh, it is frightening to think that the socialists now have the codes for the bomb! I do hope they have to get approval from the House of Lords, the Queen and Prince Philip before they can fire any nuke.
