Green tie curry
Talking of attire, I can’t help noticing David Cameron’s choice of neckwear – when, that is, he dons a tie. 
Yesterday, I recognised the striking lime green tie he wore in his outing against the prime minister in a Commons statement (on the EU budget deal). Unless he has a collection of green ties, this appears to be the same one he wore for his big Conference speech and on the day he was elected leader.
Could it be self-conscious image making – green for moderation, perhaps – or does it reflect a sub-conscious desire for a reassurance at times of great stress?
Equally preposterous theories gratefully received via the usual channels!

He does not want to be associated with the traditional blue of the "Old Tories," he knows he would be ridiculed for imitating Labour if he wore red, and yellow would be a rather too obvious appeal to the Lib Dems. Besides, he wants to appear environmentally friendly. Hmmm, perhaps he should take yet another cue from the PM and wear a red and blue striped tie (as he did in the Commons on Monday), representing the middle ground between Labour and the Conservatives...
With all of that thought going into his ties, is it any wonder he hasn't come up with any real policies yet?
He thinks it's his lucky tie.
And if it is, he'll certainly need it.
And if it isn't, well he's been in the job for quite a long time as Tory leaders go, so it may be time for a new one (leader, that is, not tie).
Surely tie colour at important occasions would be meticulously planned in advance by his team - or am I just too cynical? As for the colour: Green for the environment, rather than green for moderation. The big new idea for the tories - taking a lead on the environment. Or am I being 'green' myself believing that.
I think you're reading too much into tie colour, Nick. After all, Tony Blair often wears a blue tie, which has traditionally been the colour of the Tory party, and surely you wouldn't suggest Tony Blair is a Tory? Oh, wait a minute...
The most likely explanation seems to me to be that he only has the one tie, hence his desire to appear without a tie sometimes - presumably the green one's in the wash!

At my old school we had a fine tradition of "Sixth Form lectures" on Friday afternoons. Over the years we had a large number of the great and the good speak; politicians (Ken Livingston and Cecil Parkinson to name but two), ambassadors, authors, law professionals, and so on. One of the Prefects would chair the event. Another of their duties was to receive the speaker, together with two friends, and take them to the canteen if they needed lunch and chat with them,,make them feel welcome. If it was a Conservative politician they would be met by three sixth formers in red ties, if they were Labour it would be blue ties all round. If they were Liberal, nobody really cared...
I did find it strange that he keeps wearing the same tie - maybe he has 15 of the same tie in a lit cabinet like Batman.
You've got to feel for the poor bugger, though - where's all his money going? One tie to his name and he has to cycle to work...
See, when I first noticed it in his first Prime Minister's Question Time, I thought it was pretty natty - I'm a fan of green ties myself. Now I'm questioning if I want my tie colour to indicate I'm associated with the gentleman. It's all too complicated for my liking. Purple ties are the way forward in 2006?
It seems like the Prime Minister has a real liking for bright pink coloured ties. Frankly, I prefer the regimental styles, but that's just me.
Let's just be glad that he still dresses far superior to counterparts in the U.S. Congress.
