Brown

Eddie Mair | 12:06 UK time, Tuesday, 3 October 2006

Should we make a new book the latest blog competition prize? It's entitled: "Gordon Brown: speeches 1997-2006". It has a large picture of Gordon Brown on the front, making a speech. I honestly can't decide.

Oh and three more postcards will soon be posted. Four more have come in today. We love them all and are keeping them all, though goodness knows why. Perhaps I'll compile them into a book and Gordon Brown could give it away on his blog.

One request, when you're sending yours in - and I hope you will - please make your name nice and clear so we can name and shame you. If your handwriting is anything like mine your signature will be illegible.

The latest to arrive show: dinosaurs, breakfast cereal, Stonehenge, and somewhere in Miami. Go on: jot down the address for the next time you're away: PM Pointless Blog Postcard Thing, Room G601, 成人论坛 News Centre, London W12 7RJ.

Just got back from work so catching up with the blog news. Thrilled the mouse postcard has been put up at last. Actually - are mice rodents? Thought rats were but not sure about mice. Anyway, it's from a postcard book (AS IF i would sneak in a common PHOTO - hush your mouth whoever suggested that, it is SICK) & the book is called "Why Cats Paint" from a NZ artist called Heather Busch. She has done a lot of "spoof" art projects but this was one of the first. If I could be bothered I'd give you the link to her "Museum of Non-Primate Art" site, but you can find a lot of her work by just searching her name on google. It is very funny - though I've had several of the books of postcards, have always found the mouse one gets left to the end after all the rest are used up - I never know who to send it to. So a big thank-you to Eddie for nominating himself as the lucky recipient this time.

andy - how dare you sir - that iron was an engagement present from my husband's work - it has done decades of service & still goes. Glad you have taken out a subscription for the Men's Journal of Irons & Ironing - bet they have really hi -tech things -iron/ipod combo eg, or off-board irons for the guy who's really adventurous. Do let me know.

Val - (40) precisely my point! You could check whether it really is "our" board by getting the other half to set it up for you. If he manages to do so without pinching his fingers or collapsing it, then he's probably got some acquaintance with the ironing, however infrequent. Otherwise, looks like it's pretty much your job. You'd be amazed (or depressed) at how many men bought this cd "for the wife" or "for my daughter". Even "for my mother". But not our Andy. He must be a New Man. Andy - are you listening out there? Aperitif (42) that could be a very hurtful suggestion, if I had even considered it in the 23 years since it happened. Actually it was because our previous iron which was PRE STEAM & belonged to my parents (till they upgraded to the steam age) had just broken & my husband's boss ( a woman) had decided this would be an excellent engagement present. I was thrilled! I'm sure you'd appreciate that in New Zealand we had to make our own entertainment from whatever was available - not like the sophisticated delights of here.

My iron is neither sophisticated nor delightful. Just about functional and that's all. Cheap though. If someone gave me some frivolous spending money but said it had to be spent on a household item, I might just buy one of the all-singing, all-dancing fabulous new steam ones.

Hmm, maybe Eddie will put one up as a competition prize one of these times. Incidentally, when do we find out if I've won Gordy's book? I have a photo of him at University with my brother, could that be a levering point? ( G. Broon, not Eddie)

Whoo-o, tv is chuntering on in the background and I thought something had happened to my hearing - but no, they've decided it's the time of night to speak soothingly in Gaelic. Night all...

But my colleague didn't , & she fell asleep as well. Is that worrying ? We only woke up when (during a quiet & very intense passage, everyone concentrating like mad) the hall tannoy suddenly erupted with "taxi for Wilkinson( or somesuch name )- taxi for Wilkinson" & half the orchestra stood up to pretend it was theirs. Even the conductor was heard to say "it's for me". (He's foreign, so just getting used to the British sense of humour. Learning fast though.)Simple pleasures, but it was enough for us. The day was not wasted!
