    Well look, I really wasn't planning to send this. After the mess-ups of last week, and the well-deserved abuse we took, I honestly didn't think I should waste your time or mine with something which is out of date by the time it gets to you.

    But we thought - did we win two world wars with that attitude? No! And so here it is. The PM newsletter which you probably won't get till Friday.

    On our minds today: Iraq: when will the House of Commons next debate a policy which appears to be changing before our very eyes? Also: protecting children from people who want to harm them. Johnny Ball tells us he will ignore a new law being discussed this afternoon, post-Soham. We'll look at the rights of smokers to get health treatment, and examine violence on YouTube.

    And we'll have something on Scientology. I'll be wearing my built up heels to introduce that item.

    PM-ers rise above these tactics. We know our Chief works tirelessly to produce meaningful and highly valued newsletters to inform and entertain his reader/listenership. When things go wrong (as, sadly, they do - but blame it on the Beeb!) he stays up all night, working with his little John Bull cycle repair kit, sticking patches over all the holes in the system until, finally, the problem is 'fixed' and, to the huge delight and rounds of applause from his faithful followers, the longed-for newsletter plops safe and well into our little inboxes. It's a bit like a John Wayne film, really - or one of those Ealing War films, where the courage and plucky whimsy of the Joe Ordinary overcomes the wiles and cunning plans of the Big Bad Enemy .................

    Oh, I can't keep this up any longer! Must be time for bed.

    Someone In Another Place mentioned that some of our regulars are missing this week. I know I was.

    It's half term in Norfolk and, judging by the number of clean 4x4s and beautifully accessorised children in Holt and Wells-next-the-Sea yesterday, everybody-and-his/her-mother have hammered up the M11 in order to get their hair cut (not an appointment to be had in Holt on Saturday). London must be half-empty.

    Other cities are, of course, available and not for a minnit am I suggesting that all fellow froggers are normally resident in that particular Big Smoke . . . They might have children home from school, though, and be doing creative things with loo-roll middles and sticky-backed plastic - or just losing the competition with their offspring to get their hands on the computer when said offspring are glued to B*bo or M*Space or whichever networking site is this week's destination of choice.

    Cleverly, though, I am a lone parent and have shunted mine off to their father's for the week and instead am ferrying my sister around the county in search of interesting things to buy. Like boxes of Cox's apples. And wrapping paper for her step-grandbaby's third birthday present. Neither of which, apparently, are to be had in Hampshire.

    I have no illuminating comments to make about anything (no change there, then) but just wanted to reassure all that am not at the bottom of a wine bottle somewhere :-)

    Now I must go to the Queen's Sawmill in search of interesting bits of wood and wicker baskets. And source some old apple crates. And, because am in process of setting up own business, make a few lists. Izzy wizzy etc . . .
