    Good morning.

My newsletter was on my computer this morning and i took great pleasure in reading it. Thank you.

But why are you up at 5.00 Eddie? I have 2 cats and a puppy who ensure i get up at 6.00, what is your excuse?

I have a sprained or bruised ankle from tripping over the uneven surface and stones on the terrace a couple of days ago, it is being dug up and relaid and I was taking puppy out at night. It's really painful. And I can't think what to do about it. Probably nothing is the most sensible.

Sorry to moan so early. Cheerfulness will break through now.

Okay, Eddie, you're scaring me now, blogging this early!

    How's that for service?

I missed most of the programme last night, so I'll have to "listen again" to it when I get into work.

Lo and behold, here's the newslater at breakfast time to tell me what's coming up later.

Admit it Eddie, this was all planned to be kind to catch-ups like me.

    Cat.

Seems to have got lost somewhere between lists1.mh.bbc.co.uk and lists2.mh.bbc.co.uk according to the headers.

As a sad old techie - I would be interested to know why the newsletter has to go through so many mailhosts inside the Beeb before hitting the outside world.

Morning Eddie. I too received my mondays news letter today. What are the chances of getting one today? I await with baited breath and fingers crossed.
PS Why are you up at 5 in the morning? Hope your ok.

I had to wait for the first 2 coffees of the day to be able to inform you that my newsletter arrived at 03.31 - a full 20 minutes after yours Eddie. I think we should be able to measure the time email takes to get to all sorts of places. So London to Norfolk is 20 minutes (Ignoring the 12+ hours since the newsletter was already sent when it clearly went to that slide thing at the Tate Modern followed by supper at a suitably swish restarant followed perhaps by a trip to the cinema?)
Ground it, I say, until it does it's homework.

You clearly didn't follow my advice on the blog regarding the much delayed emails - if you renamed it the PM News Journal then its title clearly doesn't convey the same urgency as a letter. A journal is a daily written record of (usually personal) experiences and observations. There there, calm down and go and rest in a dark place.

As a service to anyone who didn't receive it I have pasted below the content of said newsletter, with the additional comment that my sense of deja vu makes me think that the Newsletter inhabits a parallel universe.

    Hello.

Well look, I really wasn't planning to send this. After the mess-ups of last week, and the well-deserved abuse we took, I honestly didn't think I should waste your time or mine with something which is out of date by the time it gets to you.

But we thought - did we win two world wars with that attitude? No! And so here it is. The PM newsletter which you probably won't get till Friday.

On our minds today: Iraq: when will the House of Commons next debate a policy which appears to be changing before our very eyes? Also: protecting children from people who want to harm them. Johnny Ball tells us he will ignore a new law being discussed this afternoon, post-Soham. We'll look at the rights of smokers to get health treatment, and examine violence on YouTube.

And we'll have something on Scientology. I'll be wearing my built up heels to introduce that item.

    See you on the ice,

    Tom Muir

My prediction for Tuesday's newsletter is that it will arrive ................. about three days after Eddie decides to write it. If he decides ever to write it. After all, he said he wasn't going to bother.

    Who can tell.

PM-ers rise above these tactics. We know our Chief works tirelessly to produce meaningful and highly valued newsletters to inform and entertain his reader/listenership. When things go wrong (as, sadly, they do - but blame it on the Beeb!) he stays up all night, working with his little John Bull cycle repair kit, sticking patches over all the holes in the system until, finally, the problem is 'fixed' and, to the huge delight and rounds of applause from his faithful followers, the longed-for newsletter plops safe and well into our little inboxes. It's a bit like a John Wayne film, really - or one of those Ealing War films, where the courage and plucky whimsy of the Joe Ordinary overcomes the wiles and cunning plans of the Big Bad Enemy .................

Oh, I can't keep this up any longer! Must be time for bed.

Perhaps all this activity on the mail servers in the middle of the night is part of the Beeb's off-peak energy saving policy.

But then again they saved even more by not sending it at all for two days.

Saw from The Independent today that I am enjoined to save energy by doing my washing off-peak overnight. Can't help feeling this is the advice of a single man who never has more than one load of washing to do and doesn't mind if it gets creased sitting damp in the drum for hours.

Morning all - and a special early-morning morning to Eric. I reckon he must have been up specially to listen out for the jokes on 'Farming Today'. Or the ones on the shipping forecast.

Someone In Another Place mentioned that some of our regulars are missing this week. I know I was.

It's half term in Norfolk and, judging by the number of clean 4x4s and beautifully accessorised children in Holt and Wells-next-the-Sea yesterday, everybody-and-his/her-mother have hammered up the M11 in order to get their hair cut (not an appointment to be had in Holt on Saturday). London must be half-empty.

Other cities are, of course, available and not for a minnit am I suggesting that all fellow froggers are normally resident in that particular Big Smoke . . . They might have children home from school, though, and be doing creative things with loo-roll middles and sticky-backed plastic - or just losing the competition with their offspring to get their hands on the computer when said offspring are glued to B*bo or M*Space or whichever networking site is this week's destination of choice.

Cleverly, though, I am a lone parent and have shunted mine off to their father's for the week and instead am ferrying my sister around the county in search of interesting things to buy. Like boxes of Cox's apples. And wrapping paper for her step-grandbaby's third birthday present. Neither of which, apparently, are to be had in Hampshire.

I have no illuminating comments to make about anything (no change there, then) but just wanted to reassure all that am not at the bottom of a wine bottle somewhere :-)

Now I must go to the Queen's Sawmill in search of interesting bits of wood and wicker baskets. And source some old apple crates. And, because am in process of setting up own business, make a few lists. Izzy wizzy etc . . .

    Love
    Lady P x
