mmmm ..........Mispronunciation of 'Lord' perhaps?
You've cheered me up. Thanks.
How ignorant! Everybody knows you're called Eric......
(parma ham parma ham parma ham....)
Now you can't be surprised. Laurie Mayer and you do look remarkably similar on the radio
And it was Andrew Neill, of all people.
Well, Eddie, just call him Neal next time. Perhaps he'll see the joke.
He was calling you 'Lorry' because you're so articulate. Possibly.
Re. the newsletter.
If the hole in the programme is small enough, I think you ought to do a feature on a wood turner being on the V&A's web site. Believe me that is unusual. But then I guess I'm biased. ;-))
What a sensible suggestion from the copper about heroin. Wasn't there a trial along similar lines in Liverpool some years back. Cut crime in the area by something like 80% I seem to recall.
.....I can't play it!! What does it say, what does it say....??
But I do just have one question, if that is indeed the case (and I don't doubt you for a second Mr Mair) then why have I still never seen you featured heat magazine's Spotted column...???
Luc:
Great stuff!
The Orange Scotsman's tangue must have got tongled up.
He probably thinks PM is just you thinking aloud.
Thanks Luc LOL (whatever that means- I hope its not rude frogspeak)
Message for ValP:
The old dog sends a big lick to his new fan.
I'll try to post another of him in more nimble days.
How dare ole' Brillo Pad get our Eric's name wrong.
Big Sis:
Awww shucks!
I am ready with my camera.
Shucks, yourself Luc.
Y'all might enjoy , and well shucks, it might even sound a wee bit 'down home' to some of us....
Y'all take care, y'hear.
ed
Eddie
'Hows about' emailing Jonnie another image of yourself (if you don't entirely belong to Auntie - and somehow I can't imagine you do!) so that we can see you before Big Ben clipped off the top of your head? He could then use that on the PMBlogpost.
Go on, go on, go on - you know you want to do it!
Groundhog day:
Audio clip plays :-), but no newsletter again :-(.
(see yesterday's posting).
Big Sister have you seen the time???
Eddie "Two Dogs" Mair.
It has a certain ring to it don't you think?
Anyone up for the heroin debate? Taking the petty crime out of it could be straightforward, and not a bad idea methinks.
BUT I was led to think about the country of origin, and the war on drugs, which is largely a US war which includes trade tariffs as well as funding localised efforts. All crops are sprayed, not just the coco/opium crops, effectively denying anyone any other means of cultivation even without the localised brutality which 'persuades' people to grow a marketable product.
The crime we suffer here is largely petty crime, although there is nothing petty about the experience of those who suffer it. At the beginning of the trail is the organised crime, which is very organised.
I realise an overall solution is huge, complex, and multifaceted, but we can鈥檛 forget we don鈥檛 exist in isolation.
Good stuff, Luc and fifi.
What an eejit Brillo is. (No change there, then)
Thanks, Eric, a good laugh
Fellow froggers,
Another bit of audio from our old friend Charlotte Church
Sultry?
ed
There you are, Eddie, a good meaty lead item. And guaranteed to get people calling, emailing and frogging.
like whatever
Eric, plugging not just the 'Today' programme but also its blog! So generous, so big-hearted!
Eddie:
Yes. But where's the hair?
Susan (20) would he then be known as
'Mair of the dog(s)'?
Luc (6) very funny!
Ed (23), Charlotte Green (SeaGreen), not Ms Church. She might be up for singing the shipping forecast.
Helen (21),
There is a new 'thread' for the heroin debate. I agree entirely with what you have to say, especially about the destruction of farmland and folks' livelihoods which, no matter how long continued, will never solve the problem.
In sadness,
ed
Ed (23),
That was absolutely brilliant. Did I hear the faintest snigger towards the end?
I'm starting a queue for Sea Green.
Off to the beach.
Calm down Bill'n'Ben!
Big Sis - Sam says Slurp, crashed out in front of the log fire, on his back, paws in the air!
A long wait at the dentists today. You know what they say about work for idle hands....
Good evening, & welcome to Front Row. I鈥檓 Mark Lawson, & tonight鈥檚 guest is the famous Eddie Mair talking about the extraordinary PM online Photo exhibition he has organised.
Tell us about the show, Eddie.
EM: Well, we thought it would be great to get our listeners to send in photos of the world as they see it at 5 pm.
ML: And did any respond?
EM ;Oh yes, all of them. We were overwhelmed.
ML: ALL of them? But that must have been thousands of photos
EM: No, 35, actually.
ML: 35???
EM:Yes, wonderful response, wasn鈥檛 it?
ML: mmmm鈥o, what sort of pictures did you get from your listeners?
EM: Well, we had a lot taken through the car windscreen, showing motorway, the back of the car in front, that sort of thing.
There were several showing the back of people鈥檚 heads, over the seat in front. I guess those were from bus travellers.
Then quite a few that were out of focus but seemed to be views of other people jammed up very close to the camera. I presume those were our listeners travelling on local trains.
We also had some of vegetables being prepared for dinner. And a rather disturbing one of a large pumpkin being cut up. I think that was from Anne P.
One, of the footprints of a large dog across sand, no doubt from RobbieDo walking the dog. Then the empty champagne glass and the screwed up chocolate wrappers had to come from Aperitif.
ML: Absolutely amazing 鈥 you seem to know all your listeners by name!
EM: (Sighs) Well they鈥檙e always writing to me. Several times a day sometimes. You know the sort of thing, just little niggles like can I get their housing benefit increased, can I get their son 鈥搃n-law into the 成人论坛, can I get them exempt from the London congestion charge鈥
I tell you, this fame thing has its drawbacks.
Why, (laughs), recently several of them wrote saying could I get the PM newsletter delivered on time 鈥揌ahahahaha 鈥 I had to say to them, 鈥淐ome on, I鈥檓 not G*d you know鈥
ML:It鈥檚 been an absolute pleasure talking to you, Laurie. Sorry, Eddie. I do beg your pardon. (Can we just run that again please)
Thank you Annasee (32), brought me great relief having seemingly spent hours manipulating photographs. None for the "next big thing" which is just around the corner though :-) Funnily enough, out here on the west coast the newsletter comes in nice and early. Probably something to do with the resonance set up by your harp strings keeps bouncing it back.
Re. moderation. I'm probably very slow here and have no doubt missed previous references to this but I have just noticed that it says that "Comments are moderated, and will not appear on this weblog until the author has approved them." Does this mean that Laurie stays awake to moderate all frogs? No wonder it's slow sometimes, poor man must be exhausted.
Annasee
Superb stuff. Are you sure you weren't high on anaesthetic?
I'm spending all day tomorrow driving from one end of Ireland to the other and back. I'll TRY think of another theme. What other show should he be interviewed on?
Robbiedo - emphatically NOT high on anaesthetic - rather the opposite - so happy because he fixed the broken filling with a bit of glue stuff ("bond" is the technical term). I was walking on air when I came out of the surgery!
Enjoy the drive today -but who will walk the dog??
Annasee (33),
Thank You! If Lawrie does want photos I know what to send now.
Brilliant Annasee (33)......... a thoroughly enjoyable read to brighten up my morning! Still haven't been able to listen to the clip myself yet but think I have got the gist of it now!!
Strange that Mark didn鈥檛 ask Eddie about the photo I took whilst working on that duodenal ulcer in theatre....
39 Dr Hackenbush - I think you'll find your photo was mistakenly filed under the "food preparation" category - they thought it was some kind of exotic steak cut.
That will make us all rest easier.
Oh dear Annasee! You've realised that I don't actually work for a living and really spend all day drinking champers!... Ah, that pic was from my dreams... In which case, why wasn't Eddie (wearing nothing but Speedoes) in it?
Bullying.
Been reading your comments on bullying -
Came to this country in 1962 from Norway and it started at once.
Schools were the worst;if it was a private school you just couldnt get away, it followed you everywhere. Many teachers were very good at it too.
I learnt quickly that if you want it to stop you have to take the bullys on - but you have to do it in such a way they cant pay you back.
Yes i have to leave several schools because i hurt the bullys.
The worst was a secondary modern in the south Hams. That was out of school - first i was stoned then beaten with sticks i estimate there were about 14 in all. I then stuck a knife in one of them - police got involved and were going to prosecute me untill they discovered how many were on to me.
Because none of the issues were ever resolved i had a nervous breakdown at 17 - violence etc - dangerous, just look at the record.
I was called skitzophrenic and sectioned. They didnt even need to talk to me, the record spoke for itself.
Electroshock, drug therapy and more - hopeless case.
After a year or so i was no longer of interest, just fed the drugs.
It took me 8 years to loose them
After being told i would never hold down a job, or work i became a lab tech within 2 years, 12 hour shifts and more.
The bullying followed - eventualy it had to stop.
The man who was physically tormenting me at work ended up in hospital with a dislocated shoulder and torn ligaments - i had put in a couple of years learning judo.
Surprisingly enough he stood up for me when the bosses were going to call the police, he said he asked for it, (in fact he did a lot more than just asking for it)
So now i work for myself - the last 25 years in fact.
I have recently learnt too that i may be inline for compensation for my incaceration, electroshock and enforced drug regime.
I have reached the heights of my chosen career, but allways the bullying is there somewhere.
It still happens but i have developed some unusual strategies to deal with the problem.
The first is give much more than you get, make sure they know why so if theres a mistake it can be sorted, and lastly the best weapon is humour.
Perhaps all this has taught me what happiness is;i live a very rich and happy life, and far more than that im free.
I've been sent this:
TORIES FAIL TO REVEAL THEIR OWN 鈥淚NNER TOSSER鈥
A Tory party viral ad campaign launches today called "The inner tosser". It features a young man being persuaded to spend beyond his means by an evil sidekick - "the tosser within" - who embodies the youngster's worst impulses and urges him to buy many things he can鈥檛 afford. David Cameron has made a number of spending promises he can鈥檛 afford because he has pledged to cut investment in public services through the 鈥減roceeds of growth rule鈥. He has not said who he blames for this.
Can a political party really use the term "tosser" in an advertising campaign??? I'm stunned. Perhaps they don't know what it means?
Can this get through moderation without me having to alter it?...
Annasee, wonderful, thanks! Why is it that my wasted time is just that - wasted?
Bertie,
Thanks for that. I hear you.
Vaya con Gaia
ed
Bertie,
What a horrendous story. And congratulations on your survival.
So this is where my sister hangs out.
PS Isn't it time we wrapped up warm?
48 - we used to "wrap up warm" on Broadcasting House - since Eddie has moved to PM we've got a lot more careless about such things, & now hardly even notice the weather. Could be because none of us go out any more, of course. The blog keeps us indoors over the computer all hours of the day & night. What's that? Midnight already? Must check to see what the new strapline is today...
Yes, Annasee, I'm worried that all those people on the beach are running a risk of hypothermia.
I think you should delete this one.
Have you looked at the name?
