Meet the commissioners, view the terms of reference and hear the Commission Chair Sir Michael Lyons explain his approach.
There is such a blaze of recognition and illumination, when somebody who knows what they're talking about, and who can articulate their views clearly, speaks out.
Well done, that man. I salute you.
The same can not be said of the SecDef himself, alas.
Who remembers the Donald Rumsfeld Soundbite of the Week on BH?
Congratulations! Not only an excellent piece from Amerika, but you've got the comments button working!

Do comments on this thread work?
Mornin' fifi & all,
from the :
A Conversation With Donald Rumsfeld
(from an interview between Rumsfeld and reporter Bob Woodward)
Woodward: Mr. Rumsfeld, 鈥
Rumsfeld: "Do I see a difference between saying 鈥測es鈥 we won't do this but 鈥渘o鈥 we'll do that with regard to staying the course with no benchmarks for the Iraqis and saying 鈥渘o鈥 to not altering our strategy and not being flexible in response to not having a specific timeline? Yes, of course not! Is there any reason for the Iraqis to take over saying 鈥渘o鈥 to the yes men in the militias simply because it's hard to say 鈥測es鈥 to the 鈥渘o鈥 votes in this new Democracy, who have, Lord knows, no reason whatsoever to say 鈥測es鈥 unless we stand up and say 鈥渘o鈥 to them, my goodness, yes, absolutely not! I've always never said that."
Yes, I remember it on BH

Mmm, DRSoundbite of the week ...... Quite agree, Fifi! I seem to recall commenting on this several threads ago.
C'mon Eddie, bring it back!
And don't think we haven't noticed that this thread started during the broadcast!
Although I don't recall seeing it there, at that time.
Another conspiracy...?
Actually, looking over Ed's posting (above) and reading it v. carefully, you get to realise the Donald Rumsfeld is more clever than perhaps we have realised.
After all, to be able to sustain such non-sense without drawing breath does require considerable skill. I certainly couldn't do it ..... But then, thankfully, I'm not Donal Rumsfeld (or George Bush, or Tony Blair, or David Blunkett, George Galloway, Clare Short, Margaret Beckett ... etc. etc.)
You can't imagine my disappointment on following the above link to discover it wasn't a modern day american version of All Creatures Great and Small.
Not impressed by yet another American who got fired up with patriotic duty and then found out Iraq was a foreign country. If he'd been smarter he might have realised Iraq had no WMD, was not linked to Osama Pyjama and the only reason Bush wanted to go bomb it flat with depleted uranium was because 'daddy didn't finish the job, and the guy with the mustache is jeering at Amurka'. This vet, along with all the others, will have brought back lots of uranium dust in and on his body, so I hope he doesn't plan to have kids. Deformed births in Iraq have mushroomed recently.
The Fool on the Hill - - forecast it all in 2003, yet most of our politicians didn't. Hmm?

Don't be too hard on him. Lots of folk forecast it. Have a look at particularly the last two paragraphs.
