Obviously it just stayed with some friends on the wy down.

02.58! This is, however, my first ever PM newsletter that's gone astray, so I'm treating it as a quirky one-off. I'm sure it will never happen again.....

Things often do take a long time to get from London to Yorkshire, you know.

Funny thing is when I first used to subscribe, well before the days of the blog, it always arrived promptly mid-afternoon.

Surely the newsletter problems can't be connected with the incredible, super, world-wide, almost infinite popularity of the blog?

03:06, and like Belinda's mine set off at 12:57.

I was still up, after a particularly hectic evening hosting a folk club and then taking a friend home who was surviving his twenty-nineteenth birthday ... but I didn't check my emails till a more civillised hour.

From the grubby screen and tatty corners I surmise it took a few turns around the Stringfellows dance floor before hailing a cab and commencing its journey around the country.

Thank goodness Santa doesn't rely on email, eh!

Blimey. It's 10.13am as I type this, and already Wednesday's newsletter is here!

Alas, devoid of content relating to the programme -- but since the team doesn't even have an editorial meeting till 11am, this is understandable.

Serious question: if the newsletter relates to the programme, but can only reliably be received after the programme, unless sent so early that it can't give information about the programme... its point is?

My theory is the old business of 'when the USA wakes up and comes online, all traffic slows down'.

Somewhere deep in the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ is a clunky old server someone's forgotten about, that has never been brought up to the state-of-the-art that it needs to be these days.

And America (sorry, cousins!) is too much for it.

There you go: Fifi's excruciatingly non-tecky explanation of the inexplicable.

Next week, I'll be reversing Global Warming and solving the Middle East crisis.

Out of interest, how is the mailing list handled?

Does the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ manage its own email/messaging servers? If so, are the servers in a ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ datacentre or a third party datacentre?

Or does a third party manage the email/messaging servers? If so, is it a bespoke solution/contract (given the size of the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ quite possibly. Siemens?) or does the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ buy a managed email/messaging service?

Where is the bottleneck, and who's responsible for clearing it?

I am not a telco sales rep :-)

Good effort to get it here so soon though. Top marks for efficiency, if not content.

If you waited up til 2 45, then were posting at 5 34am, when exactly do you sleep? Or is there a new baby in the house? (in which case your hours would make perfect sense...

The newsletter's purpose isn't to tempt us to listen to PM, is it?

I suppose I should pay more attention to the newsy bits of PM, but I admit I'm more interested in mentions of the blog and the vagaries of the newsletter. Nodding vigorously at the car radio helps to pass the time in my evening traffic jam.

why are you going to Leeds Annasee. Is it for a concert in the Town Hall? We used to go to those sometimes but generally only when Paul Whelan and/or the Leeds Festival Chorus was singing.

Fifi (18) Re the Newsletter - I agree that I would rather get a Newsletter with some content about the programme in it (today's was a bit of a damp squib - sorry!) even if it's sometimes late.
I don't mind a bit of erratic delivery!

But then I often only get to see it after the show, and only get to hear the show on 'Listen Again' so I'm probably not typical.

(I imagine the basement at the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ full of those vacuum tube systems they have for the cash at supermarkets, with pods flying around containing the newsletter. Occasionally one flies off and escapes to Orkney, or Norfolk, or Aberdeen......)

The sudoku fiend mentioned yesterday that he remembered Eddie when he was on "Good Morning Scotland" (have I got the name right?) as this person works a lot at the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ there. Small world, but he was unable to come up with any damaging allegations or gossip about Eddie, so that was a wasted conversation...

Did you know Paul Whelan is from NZ? I remember playing for him the day he won a big ("the" big) singing competition in NZ about 17 years ago. I keep reminding him of that every time I see him. Makes me feel about 100 years old. He's got an incredible voice, I think.

I think he's briliant, great voice, great stage presence and the year he was in Cardiff Singer of the World he was robbed. (Actually it was fairly close, but I still think he should have edged it). We don't rate tenors much in this household, we're baritone fans.

So now you talk to PW, your brother has llamas and he lives in NZ giving you the perfect excuse to visit. I don't know whether to suck up to you in case some of these benefits will rub off on me, or just flounce out now before I discover anything else about your life that makes me green! :-)
