Jason you've left your lights on.......
Jason, did your rubbish get collected today?
No snow in Rye and lovely sunshine walking the dog at Rye Harbour. Drove to Tenterden and within 2 miles of Rye the snow was evident, and from there on to Tenterden. Puppy's first experience of snow. It was absolutely beautiful but slippy, especially with puppy on the lead.
Even in London if there was snow our school would close because many teachers came from so far away and couldn't get there.
My rubbish was collected this morning, with the refuse van cutting the first tyre prints in the snow. It's rapidly melting away in outer London at present, but not fast enough to prevent icey patches if it gets any colder tonight.
The problems for many schools extend beyond whether teachers can get in or not. Often schools have opened with a reduced number of teachers, for the convenience of parents. However, heating systems are often the problem, and, in rural areas where pupils are bussed in, there can be problems due to diesel engines not starting.
Most schools that I worked in contrived to open on snow days. Sadly, for me.
Still quite a covering in our corner of East Lothian, but not disruptive to the public at large.
Nice photo, Black Sheep.
Love the strapline too, Mark :o)
Deepthought: Was it collected by a Des(t)cartes?
(I hope that posterity will judge me kindly, not only as to the things which I have explained, but also as to those which I have intentionally omitted so as to leave to others the pleasure of discovery. )
Gosh - publicity! Thanks, Eddie and team.
Gillian (2): Our local bin men are fantastic. They collected all the rubbish and were only about 30 minutes later than on a normal week.
Our recycling collection contractor could learn a lot from them...
As for the lights, I do find it best to leave them on the car. Removing them always involves unpleasantness with members of Derbyshire Police. ;-)
As a Scot in exile 'doon sooth', I am utterly bemused by the media's obsession with what, even by Sassenach standards, is a pretty small amount of snow.
We've had far worse, even in the 12 years I've lived here, without all this attention being paid to it.
Isn't there any News today?
* pauses to accept polite applause for fifirst attempt at html... *
Fifi
Fifi - congrats on the italics! Hee hee.
I really have not acheived anything this aftenoon. Far too much frogging. I'll have to work extra hard tomorrow now...
Jason...will I be able to get home tonight? Just leaving the office now. I think the Chinley trains are still running.
PS how come Marc manages to get the blog supremo to post an entry?? I'm jealous of his superior contacts.
Ho ho, Big Sister (7)
But Lissa (12), Marc's going off on some jaunt for some time soon, where's the dedication that marked your time in office?
I hope you get home OK Lissa.
Don't be jealous of marc, you were great as the blog queen!
Mary
PS Great picture Jason. Check out my blog for my picture of snow over Birmingham
Lissa with-an-a
I agree with MM. Who needs Blog supremos knocking on your door when the blog was running as well as you had it going? Has Marc without-a-k taken on more than he can cope with? Marc (& Jem), if you are reading this, we are all your supporters and cheering you on as things improve.
H.
Could I just nominate Hugh Sykes for a special froggers 'Services to Broadcasting Award.' His revealing, honest and often quite personal reports from, at the moment, China, but particularly from the middle east, give listeners a valuable window into the lives of ordinary people around the world, and the events that influence and inform their corner of the globe.
I could go on, but I'm sure you get the point.
I pledge my vote for Hugh and invite others to do likewise, or perhaps even nominate another....
:-)
Penrose (16) I like his reporting too, it sounds like he's just talking to you. Or should that be me? or......oh well nice voice too!
Gossipmistress(17) I agree with you entirely....I still think we need a photo of Hugh, though.
