Christopher Landau will have what I suppose amounts to part two of a series.
He'll report from the US, as a follow up to the piece we brought you last Monday. This is how we introduced it then:
"Centuries of tradition in the Anglican Communion are under threat - the balance of power is changing.
As a result of the divisions over homosexuality, African churches are finding ways of by-passing Lambeth Palace.
Officially the American Church has until the end of the month to state whether or not it will allow more gay bishops in future. But African churches are not hanging around and are trying to provide a welcome to disillusioned American Anglicans by creating African church branches inside the United States.
The Church of Uganda has just created its own new Bishop. Our reporter Christopher Landau was at the ceremony..."

It is all rather bizarre, and could lead to some unexpected outcomes, I'd suggest.
If anyone had predicted, a few years ago, that white Americans would become ordained as bishops in the Church of Uganda, with the intention of serving back in the USA, they probably would have been deemed mad.
It will be interesting to see what happens when these new branches are established in America, with all the unresolved racial tensions evident in that society. And I do not predict a comfortable future for them, nor for their relationship with the established Anglican community in the US.
This does have the whiff of desperation, imho.
H'mm.
The reported reason for the schism, i.e. homosexuality/ordination, seems to contrast somewhat with Picture 4 (ugandad.jpg).
My personal sympathy lies with those who are GAY rather than merely gay. (Archbishops please note.)

As for the Bishops, I agree with the Africans. It's a poor alternative to the anti-Biblical Americans leaving the Anglican Communion voluntarily. But you all knew that already.

My favourite is how Jewish, Muslim and Christian Religious Leaders managed to hold a joint press conference in Jerusalem a few months ago calling for gay festivals to be banned in the City....

Additionally, I have never seen the name of top reporter Nils Blythe written down, so it could easily be Bligh or other such. Which is it, oh presenter?
I have seen the Radio 4 presenters and newsreaders’ page, but why is there not an equivalent page to check out all your many current affairs correspondents?

Frankly, I find it very 'unChristian' to continue to pursue prejudices (well, I mean bigotry) of this kind in this way. I despair, I really do.
Hmm...anyone else noticed the irony in the fact the ceremony was performed under the canopy of a UNHCR tent?
I suppose they would consider themselves refugees (fleeing a Church that has become too liberal for their taste), but I doubt their interpretation would be the same as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees...

Of course the fascinating thing is that the first Lambeth Conference came after a dispute over how Christian bishops should deal with polygamous Zulus (i.e. whether they should put away extra wives when they converted). Bishop Colonso said no, and we ended up with two rival bishops of Natal.
