In March, thousands of school pupils took part in the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s . In a slightly belated post (delayed due to holidays and Easter), David Twyman looks at ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Red Button's involvement.

The red button has had many successful partnerships: Glastonbury, the Grand Prix and Wimbledon. But now it is time to introduce a new successful partnership, this time with ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ School Report.

The project that takes place yearly and pairs schools with ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ mentors helping them create a live news broadcast. Hundreds of 11-14 year olds research, prepare and present the news where it is broadcast globally through the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ website.

But what has this got to do with the red button?

Well we were not only able to give them space for their two channels, but it enabled us to explore what radio on television can be whilst exploring a new piece of software so see what extra options it could offer over our normal services.

Using it, we were able to design a visual display for the radio service on the red button that also brought together multiple picture galleries and text messages sent in from schools, which could be easily updated by the team.

The highlight of the day was probably the Manchester show on the School Report Radio (although I do have a conflict of interest - that was the part I worked on!)

It was such a good product for the North Team and our Software Engineer Andy, that we showcased at the Building A and B hand over in Salford Quays.

Above all it was a success for the Outreach Project, the young people involved and of course the Red Button.
