Durham North West Labour shortlist revealed
Just a brief missive to update you on the latest shortlisting for one of our seats.
Hilary Armstrong is standing down in Durham North West, and the party has just shortlisted for the vacancy.
You'll remember there was a fuss in this seat about it being an all-women shortlist.
The local party fought it for a while, and there were even rumours that Lord Mandelson might be interested in the seat.
But eventually the locals relented and the all-female shortlist has now been drawn up.
The candidates are Liz Twist, Unison's Political Officer for the North, , the Deputy Director of New Local Government Network and a former Special Adviser to Hilary Armstrong, Pat Glass, a government education adviser and Lanchester parish councillor, Lisa Homan, a councillor in Hammersmith and Fulham, Lauren Todd, a 23-year-old politics student from Consett, and , an economics writer and commentator and co-founder of the Jubilee 2000 campaign for the cancellation of Third World debt.
The selection takes place on January 23.
By the way I'm just putting together my Moss Missives review of the political year in the region, and it's coming soon!
