Phobia of the Past

Jill Robinson has a phobia about the past.

Everything that happened before 1950 makes her feel sick, if she's eating when she sees it. It鈥檚 an odd concept to grasp. But it鈥檚 a phobia that Jill suffers from and she was keen to make a guerrilla report for us about her situation.

I have a similar phobia to Jill's in that i can't eat around pre-history. If i happen to see, hear or read anything about prehistory while i am eating i simply cannot swallow food and feel physically sick - this only happens when eating.

    Food Phobia.
The answer seems obvious - if Jill concentrates on eating in places where one is supposed to eat - a kitchen, a dining room, a restaurant or a caf茅, rather than in front of the televison or in a theatre - she might be able to focus on her food rather than any history around her.

a)It is possible to eat a meal without watching the television. Try talking to your dinner partner or if eating alone , why not listen to (modern) music.
    b)Try cognitive behavioural therapy.

    Jill's Phobia of the past

I was rather disturbed by this account and feel it could very well point to a traumatic experience in this persons past which has manifest as this Phobia. I am not an expert in this area but as Associate Dean - Research at Middlesex University have several colleagues in Psychoanalysis led by Professor Bernard Burgoyne who may be of assistance

Jill Robinson's phobia of things historical which prevented her from eating was interesting. It was curious but not funny. Many people have strange phobias which relate to associations with past traumas/problems. She needs to seek help from a well-qualified hypnotherapist; these therapists are used to dealing with phobias and related anxiety disorders of all kinds. Hypnotherapy is likely to be extremely helpful to her situation.

Many hypnotherapists use regression i.e. assisting the client return to an earlier stage of their life (e.g. early childhood) under light hypnosis. Memories plus emotions and feelings are brought to the surface using techniques that do not use leading questions or probes. It is likely that Jill will find a relevant memory plus its emotional associations which relate to her phobia and this will reduce the symptoms.

The type of 'regression' that Jill alluded to sounded as though it was 'past life regression'. Whether they believe in it or not, some hypnotherapists do successfully use such techniques but others regard it is unnecessary.

I was fascinated by Jill Robinson's story. I feel it could well be linked to past life experiences. Having taken hundreds of people back as far asd 3000 bc and done numerous tv progs. on the subject, it could well be a suitable follow up to the programme to regress Jill. If you'd like to discuss this futher, please e-mail me.

Did I hear right today? An article about a woman who didn't fly to Australia, but got on a plane for part of the journey home???? What next- someone who gave up whaling and deforestation for the whole of Lent????

Also, the on-air pitch to the commsioning editors for the 'traffic warden' sit-com was a bit direct!! Reminded me of Alan Partridge asking the Chairman of the 成人论坛 if his show was going to be recomissioned on air!

    Not good wireless I'm afraid.
