About Paul Davies

Paul Davies | 11:54 UK time, Sunday, 21 May 2006

I'm the Executive Producer for the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s television coverage of , , and .

Working for I have been lucky enough to work on some of the greatest sporting events in the world and whilst fulfilling my executive producer duties dealing with budgets, planning, talent and programme strategy I have also continued to direct many major events.

Sport has always been my passion and I was able to hone my variety of sporting interests at Millfield School in Somerset, particularly in tennis, football, rugby and golf. I joinied the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ in 1986 as a news researcher, and less than two years later I joined the Sport department as an assistant producer. Within another couple of years I had been to a Summer and Winter Olympics, a Commonwealth Games and a football World Cup.....not a bad life really!

Twenty years on I have worked with the best in the business both in front of and behind the camera. I have directed a total of 25 sports including Test match cricket, Wimbledon finals, The Boat Race, Six Nations rugby, The Open, 10 years of Sports Personality of the Year and five series of the sport chat show 'On side'. For a number of years I was series producer of 'Rugby Special' and 'Ski Sunday'. It is a real privilege to work on such diverse output and it is this variety that makes the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Sport department such a wonderful and stimulating place to work.

There is not a single time that I slip in to that director's chair and not feel an immense sense of excitement, anticipation and sheer exhilaration about what is about to unfold. The beauty of live sport is just that, you do not know what will happen next, what shot will or re-invent, what moment of sporting history might play out right there in front of your eyes. And, yes, as the director - along with your talented production and technical teams - you captured every glittering frame of it.
