Key London appointment set to be announced
With little over a week to go before Gordon Brown takes over as Prime Minister, , which is in charge of London 2012, is making some important decisions regarding the .
I understand that Jeremy Beaton, a vice president of construction company Bechtel, is about to be announced as the managing director of the project.
He will be the man in the ministry who will be responsible for making sure the Olympic sites are built on time and the , which is responsible for building the sites, will report to him.
This is a very important appointment in the running of the Games, but this afternoon a DCMS spokesman refused to discuss the details, only saying an appointment was due shortly.
When I got through to Mr Beaton he too refused to confirm his new position and referred me back to the DCMS.
Another important part of the planning for 2012 is the legacy of the stadium and I understand that plans are being finalised for its use after the 2012 Olympics and that a feasibility study is due to be announced soon.
This will involve looking at Sydney's model for the post-Olympic use of the stadium. This means that after 2012 there could be a sports school in the stadium that would teach children all kinds of sports, not just football.
As well as housing the school, it is also still possible that the stadium may become home to a football club. Talks are proceeding with , who are clearly very interested.
