Ireland unwind at the waterfall
Guyana - As international cricketers we are in a privileged position where we have the chance to travel the world to do something we love.
Having set foot in five different continents over the last four months we have had many great experiences.
However, none have been topped by our visit to the in Guyana.
This is a waterfall on the Potaro River in central Guyana. Located in a region that is also claimed by Venezuela, it is 226 metres when measured from its plunge over a sandstone cliff to the first break. It was fascinating viewing and the players took many of their photos in precarious positions. Our visit followed our Africans, against whom we competed well.
As in our victory over Pakistan, the toss was crucial, however this time we were on the wrong side.
Makhaya Ntini and Shaun Pollock exploited the conditions with great effect which meant.
It meant that when our innings was interupted three times by rain - and subsequently when our friends Duckworth and Lewis stepped in - we were left with an uphill task.
We fought our way back into a decent position forcing South Africa to use all but three of their overs to chase down victory.
Like all other teams we have faced, they treated us with respect both on and off the pitch, and shared a chat after the game.
We were pleased to give ourselves a chance but disappointed we were unable to push them even closer.
They are a quality side and will be there or thereabouts come the final stages.
We are now involved in a four-day intensive preparation for another bite at the cherry against .
I have no doubt we can stand up to another Test nation, but we want more and it won鈥檛 be for lack of effort.
Let鈥檚 hope our all-rounder Andre Botha recovers from a hamstring injury picked up during warm-up the other day.
Our physio Iain Knox has worked wonders so far. One more would be nice!
On behalf of all Guyanese, let me welcome you and hope that you are all enjoying your stay. Want to say that we are happy that you are here and as I said in another post, we (Guyanese) are all Irish except of course when you play the Windies. We especially look forward to that great day when you will beat England.
As you know already, Guyana is a lot like the rest of the Caribbean and yet so different. Most visitors to Guyana leave with strong impressions and I am sure it's the same for you all. We hope most if not all of your experiences are good and please encourage your countrymen and women to visit.
Best Wishes and we'd really like to see another shocker from Ireland before you are done.

Complain about this postCome you boys, pull off another upset. Suggest Shamrockshire should play in the Counties' Championships.
Complain about this postSince Ireland has performed so well and are showing themselves to be true Cricketers I think that we in Australia and other wealthy cricketing countries should consider inviting them [all expenses paid] to participate in some of our domestic competitions.
We can afford it and they deserve it. Only cricket can be the beneficiary of such a move.
Complain about this postKaieteur does leave a strong impression, especially the pristine surrounding areas.
Good luck in your next match. I look forward to following your progress in the years to come.
Complain about this postCome on Ireland. The whole country is rooting for you. The Aussies are easy and the Kiwis will give it up with ease. 2 more victories to come. Well done.
Complain about this postGreat attitude. Hope Bang. win against SA would inspire you guys more. Good luck against NZ
Complain about this postAs an Irish expat living abroad, I can't tell you how proud I am of Ireland's exploits in the cricket WC. The players' commitment, hard effort and great sportsmanship is a credit to them, and to the country.
Continue the great work and good luck in your next matches. Let's hope you can claim another scalp!!
Complain about this postBest of luck for tomorrow. Thrilled that both Ireland and Bangladesh are accounting for themselves so well, it's great to see some of the bigger guns being made work for it.
Good luck
Complain about this postGood luck against NZ you'll need it and then some.
Complain about this postbest of luck against kiwa 2moro see you in barbados fri and sunday keep up the good work lads. north county cricket club.
Complain about this postCongratulations on your performance so far. You have no idea how much Irish people are following your progress and admiring the spirit and professionalism of the Irish team.
Keep it up.
Complain about this postAh thats more like the andrew i know, putting in the hard hours sightseeing and unwinding in yet another glorious location.
Is this the old shock and awe training whereby the team are taken to sights of great natural beauty to stand flabbergasted. After which all the "awe" is out of your system leaving yourselves facing the worlds other most awesome cricketers underwhelmed and able to pull off another "shock" win for the Irish.
Genius you boys are ahead of the game!
Complain about this postAll the best for tomorrow against the kiwis!
What is/are the main daily newspaper(s) in Ireland?
Complain about this postMain papers Mohamed are the Irish Times, Irish Independent and the Irish Examiner
Complain about this postThe main one would be the Irish Times- www.ireland.com, Not sure about the others, but try googling the Irish Independent, more popular, but less good!!
Complain about this postBreado,
The main newspapers in Ireland, are the Irish Times and the Irish Independent.
Complain about this postDear Mohomed
Complain about this postwe dont have any papers. we have only computers and laptops .We are on the net.
Thanks for the Info.
Ditto to Neal Martin's suggestion. This CWC would be so much better with more competitive teams and the only way for teams like Ireland to improve is to play meaningful matches against top teams. Look at Basketball..so many European countries are now beating the US, something that was unheard of 15 years ago.
I would love to see the Irish team in the West Indies again. The ICC must step up and in another 8 years, the ICC can then truely boast that CWC is the 3rd largest sporting event.
The Irish and the Bangladesh teams have captured the hearts of all the Guyanese and at the risk of boring you all, I'll say it again... We Guyanese are all Irish except when they play the West Indies.
Go Irish!
Go Ireland!
Complain about this postGlad you enjoyed Kaieteur - I lived in Guyana for 8 years and loved to visit the interior.
Thanks for all the entertaining and committed cricket to date.
Good luck tonight against NZ - continue to do us proud.

Complain about this postThose of us close enough to the Ireland Cricket scene are not overly surprised at the solid performances to date. A little luck, a catch or two held here or there & we could be a place or two higher up in the Super 8 table. Hopefully the UK media will give us the credit we deserve from our results to date..... watch out Kiwi's.
Complain about this postHi Andrew,
You guys played well against South Africa without much luck. It's been good seeing Ireland play intense cricket; hope you get more 'home' internationals now; as an England fan, I think it'd be great to see Ireland involved in a triangular or quadrangular tournament in the British summer, along with the touring side(s). I guess the counties would need to release the players involved though.
The kiwis are ripe for picking: reckon you have a good chance today. Failing that - do England a favour and beat the tigers ....
Good Luck!!
Complain about this postOh thank you very much...lol and just so you know Guyanese love the Irish.
Even before your team came to Guyana it was being said that you and your countrymen are a good match for Guyana since you know how to have a good time and so do we.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay and do come again. We are looking forward to you playing against the WI in Guyana some time soon after the World Cup
