Alex Parks sings for survival on Fame Academy

It's been a few odd days for Alex. The modest 19 year old was completely thrown when the teachers decided to let her read some of her fan mail.

Viewers are allowed to send in their letters to the house, and a 'vetted' selection are given to the housemates to read. Alex was very humbled after reading how much the public like her and enjoyed her voice.

But instead of inflating her ego and letting it go to her head, Alex "can't understand that people are writing in. People are sending you things, people are behind you and they don't even know you. It's just blizzard." said Alex.

If she wants a life of fame she'll have to get used to it. But if this is how she reacts now, could she handle a life of stardom?

Alex is also beginning to crave the outside world. It's not surprising that after being stuck inside a house 24/7 you'd want to get out and be free, but is it enough to send Alex mad?

The house was disrupted when Carolynne and Louise were sent to the London Premier of Tomb Raider as a reward for winning a competition, but on their return Alex grilled the two about what it was like to be outside. She seemed to have a particular fixation with busses as well! "Did you see buildings? Did you see a bus?!" Alex gasped, "Oh I would love to see a bus" she said wishfully.

Alex Parks has been practicing Coldplay's "Yellow" all week in preparation for the live show on Wednesday evening and her hard work payed off.

It was without a doubt the best performance she's given. It was very unusual to hear such a well known song being sung by a woman, however Alex captured it perfectly and encoded it with her own magical style and sound. Listen to her sing "Yellow" in our report.

JohnnyBoyRice Alex Parks is the most unique artist I have heard for a long time. She is the first who could actually gain serious commercial success. The emotion in her singing is incredible and I cried during one of her performances. I have one fear and that is the money men will not realise what Joe Public want and will have her churning out cover versions. The music industry has lost its bottle and hopefully Alex can restore some credibility by retaining her originality. She is not a clone and she is the real deal. We listened and thought: "Great song Lexi, what d'ya make of all these people liking your music and liking you even more. Coming up the pub after?" It must be Cornwall in Lexi's veins that makes her so different and appealing: something real and close to the people compared to the stars of "industrial" music. Chris, Norfolk I have been mesmerised by Alex's extraordinarily controlled power in her delivery - completely uneffected and natural - and all from a waif-like wee girl! She was my 'vote' (and I did regularly!) from the start. I was spellbound from the first hearing. I heard Lennox and Moyet in her - not that she was mimicking at all - just a similar power and sincerity. Far from mimicking (unlike the drop-dead pretty Carolynne who did a wonderful karaoke of Shinia Twain) she totally reinterpreted some very idiosyncratic and iconic numbers and diminished them in no way by her treatment. I freely admit that I wept freely during her performances I was so moved. On top of her immense talent she has a disarmingly unassuming personality and happens to be as pretty as paint, too! She had such stage presence and charisma it really did not matter. I have been fortunate to have been able to interview most of the evicted students as they left the academy (many thanks beeb) and most of them have been in agreement that Alex has a fantastic talent and will go on to win this show.
