FACTS |

Unsurprisingly,
the man who was once described by a critic as 'bursting at
the seams with talent' is still creating.
So
far, he has released more than 40 albums.
Howard
Sounes, the author of Down The Highway: A Life of Bob Dylan,
says:
'He
put rhythm and blues together with serious lyrics. You didn't
have to just sing about Cadillacs, and teenage love, and that
kind of frippery, you could actually sing about life itself.'

Robert
Zimmerman first entered the public consciousness as a Greenwich
Village folk singer back in 1961, two years after his reincarnation
as Bob Dylan.

Bob
Dylan in 1962 |
The
fragile young songwriter had started out as much a rocker as a folkie,
but had cashed in his Mystery Train ticket to make it on the folk
scene, the only thing happening in a music world caught in the doldrums
between the advent of rock聮n聮roll and its 60s apotheosis.
Dylan,
frustrated by the stylistic McCarthyism of his audience, quickly
began to experiment, first with forays into stream-of-consciousness
writing and then, inspired by groups like The Beatles, The Animals
and The Byrds, by going electric.
The
beards hated it, but the results were three of the greatest albums
ever recorded, and status as the iconic spokesman for a generation.
His
obliquely revelatory lyrics, combined with a reclusive attitude
to the press, and industrial-strength sunglasses, led to the creation
of an enigmatic persona unique in popular music.
We
