Plan B
"We always have a Plan B in"
Another creative outlet for Doug and the rest of the Buffy writing staff
if the strike become a reality is the world of print. Given Doug's
previously discussed love of comics, it comes as no surprise that he was
keen to explore this - and even that such a project is already in the pipeline.
“Yes, absolutely,” Doug confirms with excitement. “We are doing a comic
book now called Tales of the Slayer. It's a one-issue anthology (eighty
page giant for the comic book fans) and every one of the short stories
will be written by one of the Buffy staff writers.
The special will feature all the main Buffy staff writers, excluding
Marti Noxon but including Amber Benson who plays Tara.
“We have this all-star line-up of comic book artists so it's great
stuff. I would never turn down the opportunity to write comic books.”
When asked about writing novels, Doug replies:
“The fact is, I'm not that bright and I like pictures with the words!”
Doug roar with laughter. “I'm just not that intelligent. I was an
English major in college (William and Mary College in Virginia) and I'm
sure my professors would be gnashing their teeth if any of them see this
but it's not for lack of trying.
“I love reading novels, I'm a voracious reader but a Buffy novelisation?
I’d rather write an episode.”
