While all the logos are rather similar to NASA's, Crichton actually works for the IASA, suggesting an International Aeronautics and Space Administration. However, his uniform insignia includes the American flag and the ship Farscape 1 has 'United States' written on it.

Crichton's father Jack was played by Kent McCord who starred as Lt Troy in Galactica 1980.

Crichton's manoeuvre for increasing speed sounds a lot like the (real) slingshot effect of a gravity well but it looked more like aerobraking or slowing down from 2010.
