While Tess runs around clutching her stomach and worrying about what kind of child she's bringing into the world (and when), Liz, Michael and Maria travel to the University of New Mexico, where it turns out that Alex was staying in the months when he was supposed to be in Sweden.
The unravelling of what really happened to Alex is brilliant. It's taut, it's tense, and it takes our minds off of whiny Tess and her mutant baby.
And then, right in the middle of the murder-mystery-alien-mindwipe-conspiracy, Nelly Furtado turns up and gives a concert. It's one of the most shoe-horned-in guest appearances of all time, but, just when you felt all faith in Roswell slipping away, Alex's imaginary girlfriend turns up in the crowd.
Just what is going on? It's genuinely intriguing.
