The date of the Money Mountain auction will be Sunday, 14 October 2007Six groups will receive grants from this year's appeal: Headway DerbyHeadway Derby helps and supports people from Derby city, Derbyshire and East Staffordshire who have been affected by brain injury and their families and carers.Ìý The Money Mountain grant will help them transform five neglected allotment plots at Derby's Rowditch allotments into a garden that can be used by local brain injured people to improve their quality and variety of life.Ìý People will be able to take part in some purposeful and structured activity while seeing plants and vegetables grow and Headway Derby will use the site as an outdoor leisure area to develop their members’ social skills and confidence.Ìý The garden will also include a quiet area that can offer people, who face many difficulties, the chance to find some peace and tranquillity. Derby Kids’ CampDerby Kids' Camp provides free camping holidays during the summer for 250 disadvantaged city children aged 8 – 11.ÌýThe children are given a week long trip to a Peak District campsite where a tented village is created. Their two large communal marquees, used for daytime activities and as a kitchen, are many years old and the grant will help replace worn out sections of canvas to ensure a more comfortable and leak-free environment.Ìý The camp would be unable to operate without these marquees. Safe and Sound DerbySafe and Sound Derby provides support and advice to young people who are being, or at risk of being sexually exploited. The charity is moving to new premises in the summer of 2007 and the grant will help pay for a kitchen that will provide young people with essential skills in preparing food as well as other refurbishment work to the charity’s new home. Belper & District Neighbourhood Watch Support GroupThe grant will enable the group to buy high visibility arm bands, bag straps and body jackets that can be distributed to schools and other groups in the Belper area.Ìý These will improve visibility for people walking in poorly lit areas during mornings and evenings and the group wants to encourage more children to walk to and from school.Ìý The grant will also pay for carbon monoxide alarms for elderly and disabled people in the Belper district. Thistley Place Meadow Dove Valley Community Project (Thistley Place Meadow Nature Reserve)This project was started by a group of householders in Hatton who bought a field and island adjacent to the River Dove in Hatton in 2006 to create a nature reserve with wildflower meadow that can be enjoyed by all the community. Their grant will enable them to buy two wheelchair accessible picnic tables with benches for the reserve and a number of wildflower plants, bulbs and seeds. Derbyshire St John Ambulance Cycle Responder UnitThe Cycle Responder Unit was created in May 2006 and is the first of its kind for Derbyshire St John Ambulance.ÌýÌýSpecially trained cycle responders cover events across the county, responding to any situation requiring First Aid.Ìý Their grant is to pay for a specially-created cycle and pannier that can carry oxygen and a defibrillator.ÌýUsing cycles allows the responder volunteers to reach the person needing First Aid more effectively. ---------------------------------------- Money Mountain 2007 received 73 applications in total and the selection process is undertaken by the trustees of the Money Mountain charity. Money Mountain 2006The money raised last year meant Money Mountain was able to make grants for the full amounts that the groups had asked for:Ìý So that came to £21,964 BUT... the money kept on coming and in March of this year Money Mountain was able to make a donation of £2,000 to the Friends of Cromford Canal.Ìý Luckily the Money Mountain trustees had picked this group as a reserve charity while they were looking at the 2006 applications. 2007 will be the 24th Money Mountain appeal that ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Derby has organised and to date the appeal has raised one million, seventy eight thousand, five hundred and twenty two pounds (£1,076,522). As well as the radio auction ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Derby would welcome any offers from people who'd like to organise fundraising events.Ìý Fundraising packs with a poster, sponsor form and handy hits on organising events are available from the CSV Action Desk or from the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Bus. CalendarSomething new this year is a 2008 Money Mountain calendar. It will go on sale from September and will be available from ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Derby. All the profits from this will go to the Money Mountain appeal.Ìý Earlier this year we asked people to send us their photos of Derbyshire East Staffordshire.ÌýThere was a fantastic response from lots of talented photographers and it was a hard job to choose just 12 pictures to make up the calendar.ÌýThe places that will feature in the calendar include Elvaston Castle, Belper, Shipley Country Park and shots taken at Ashbourne's Royal Shrovetide football. last updated: 11/10/07 You are in: Derby > ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Derby > Money Mountain > Beneficiaries 2007 |
