Some of the former owners of Calke Abbey and its 600 acres of habitats were wild about natural history. These days though, the park is open to the public and it is one of the most visited of all the UK's country estates. The flora and fauna of the grounds are in some of the rarest woodland habitats in Britain and include 200 of Europe's oldest trees. Animals you might see include deer, bats, foxes, moths and a whole host of woodland mammals, birds and insects. last updated: 11/03/2008 at 18:00 SEE ALSOYou are in: Derby > Nature > Nature Features > Calke Abbey's wildlife
