Q: Tell us about yourself.
A: I am 26 (as at June 2007). I studied music at Trinity College of Music for four years, when I worked with many musicians to record some of the songs I was writing. Since graduating in 2004, I have been working in London as a teacher and performing as much as I can. I moved back to my home town (South Brent) in October 2006 and decided to dedicate more time to writing songs, recording, promotion and performing.
Q: Which three words best describe your music?
A: Truthful, fluid, intimate.
Q:Whose records do you have in your collection?
A: I mainly listen to jazz artists like Wayne Shorter, Billie Holliday, Avishai Cohen. But I have always loved folk music, too. I have been very influenced by John Martyn, Joni Mitchell, Judee Sill, and Shirley Collins. Currently, I am listening to Regina Spektor, Julie Feeney, Mr Hudson & the Library, and Willie Mason.
Rosanna is hoping for a big break
Q: What do you think of the current music scene?
A: The music scene has changed dramatically in the last few years. Firstly, because of Eva Cassidy, Norah Jones, and all the lovely ladies that followed, there is now a real market for female singer-songwriters - which is fantastic! Also, because of the internet and myspace, it is possible to start promoting yourself and getting your music heard.
Q: Which song are you auditioning?
A: This is Lanes of Devon County. It tells the story of a broken down relationship, and I have interwoven my nostalgia for the Devon countryside with my nostalgia for the broken down relationship. It's really saying that the lanes, moors, rivers, beaches, are dear old friends - you miss them when you go, but they're always there when you return.
Q: Complete the sentence: When I become famous...
A: They'll be kicking themselves they didn't discover me earlier.
Q: In your own words...sell yourself.
A: Ultimately, I love performing and sharing music with an audience and with other musicians. If I am able to communicate to people a range of emotions that they can relate to and a joy of experiencing music, then I am doing what I always wanted to do. It's all about live performances for me, the possibilities brought up by sharing humour and romance, joy and pain, strength and vulnerability, music and lyrics.
