Concert Information

The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Symphony Orchestra and ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Singers join forces for a concert to celebrate music of the Commonwealth, concluding with Elgar’s Symphony No.1. Hear earthy, gripping soundscapes and thrilling percussion writing in Tasmanian-born Peter Sulthorpe’s From Oceania, a work which incorporates elements of Australian, Japanese and southeast Asian music. Errollyn Wallen’s orchestral work Mighty River commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery, a piece that makes reference to the hymn Amazing Grace and the spirituals Deep River and Go Down Moses. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Singers perform two a cappella movements from Australian composer Stephen Leek’s Great Southern Spirits, which explores the Dreaming of the Australian Aboriginal people.

This concert will be broadcast live on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 3.

Please note: Since tickets to ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ SO Studio Concerts are free, and not everyone uses their tickets, we have to give out more tickets than there are seats. As a result, entry is not guaranteed with a ticket. We therefore advise audience members to arrive early to avoid disappointment.

This concert will be broadcast on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 3 as part of a season of Commonwealth programming. Visit bbc.co.uk/radio3 #R3Commonwealth
