About This Event
Tim McInnerny reads a selection of excerpts from unfinished literary works, one of the recurring themes of this year's Proms season. Many classic works of literature were published unfinished owing to the death of the author. Some works we regard as complete, such as Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov, it can be argued were in fact ‘curtailed’. The feverish composition of Coleridge’s poem Kubla Khan was famously interrupted by a person from Porlock. Shahidha Bari is joined by novelist Richard T Kelly to introduce a series of readings from a selection of these works, some well-known and some lesser known, and to explore the stories behind them. Unfinished works is one of the themes explored in this year’s ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Proms.
Edited version broadcast on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 3 during tonight's interval.
