Betsy Jolas鈥檚 sophisticated and subtle songs for trumpet and orchestra, written in Paris in 1977, arrives first in our season-long exploration of music for soloist and orchestra by women composers. In Jolas鈥檚 beguiling wordless songs, H氓kan Hardenberger鈥檚 trumpet will thread, shimmy and flirt its way around a colourful and compact 成人论坛 Symphony Orchestra.
Hardenberger also brings the lyrical grace and clarion brilliance of Haydn鈥檚 Trumpet Concerto to this concert under Sakari Oramo that revels in the symmetry and zest of the Classical era, including a symphony by Haydn written right here in London and one by Prokofiev inspired by it.
