Trey Songz first gained notoriety after writing Open the Closet, a response to R Kelly's infamous hip hop-era Trapped In The Closet. However his talent was spotted years before, and he needs no controversy to sell his incredible vocals and audacious melodies.
Starting to sing at the age of 14, it took encouragement from family and friends, plus being spotted at a talent show by record producer Troy Taylor, to finally convince this boy he could hit the big time. A signing with Atlantic Records followed and four albums later, Tremaine can lay claim to collaborations with some of the hottest names around including Drake, Twista, Nicki Minaj and our very own Chip. As well as singles Say Aah and Can't Be Friends speeding up the charts, The Prince of Virgina has also been lured by the charms of Hollywood, starring in an upcoming remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Currently working on his new album, Chapter 5, Trey is making time to bring his passionate, soul-laden music to Hackney this summer. If his set is anything like his assured performance for Trevor Nelson in the 1Xtra Live Lounge last year, you won't be able to get enough of this man.
