    About This Event

    Over the course of four hours on a freezing night at the Theater an der Wien, Beethoven mounted what must be one of the most remarkable musical events ever. This wonderful retrospective brings a wealth of international talent to present some of Beethoven’s most iconic music; a marathon concert which included the premieres of his 5th and 6th symphonies, his 4th piano concerto and Choral Fantasy – this spectacular will be an event to remember.

    Morning Event:
    11.30 – 1.50 Film Screening: In Search of Beethoven Lefel 1
    Phil Grabsky’s acclaimed 2017 documentary In Search of Beethoven delves beyond the image of the tortured, bad-tempered, unhinged personality, to reveal someone quite different and even more compelling. This event is free but ticketed.

    Pre-concert:
    3pm-3.45pm Discover More – Beethoven, Wine and the musical ideas behind the 1808 concert Lefel 1
    In a Discover More special, ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ NOW Discovery Guide, Jon James meets American wine and music expert, Ron Merlino, who investigates Beethoven’s close relationship with wine. Jon James then takes a look at the monumental 1808 concert in Vienna organised by Beethoven himself, and discusses the musical ideas that bind it together.

    6.15-6.45pm approx. Duelling Pianos with Zoe Rahman & David Rees Williams Level 3 Beethoven famously took part in improvisation duels. Here, we bring Beethoven themes right up-to-date through the art of piano improvisation – 21st century style.

    6.50 – 7.20pm approx. Noson Fawr Beethoven (Beethoven’s Big Night) St Asaph Room
    In this Welsh language talk, Geraint Lewis offers a light-hearted look at the 1808 concert.
