About this event

Eminent Russian pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja returns for her second Prom this season, joining the Emerson String Quartet for its Proms debut in a programme of great chamber works of the 20th century. From France, there鈥檚 Debussy鈥檚 鈥楩eux d鈥檃rtifice鈥� 鈥� a display of technical and aural fireworks for solo piano. From the Emerson鈥檚 native America there鈥檚 the original string quartet version of Barber鈥檚 hauntingly beautiful Adagio for strings, and Russia is represented by Shostakovich鈥檚 popular Quintet, with its darkly comic Scherzo and meditative, delicately melancholy Intermezzo.
