Concert Information

Master bassist and composer Avishai Cohen performs new arrangements of his transatlantic Jazz, his core trio, with pianist Omri Mor and percussionist Itamar Doari, augmented by the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Concert Orchestra.

Born in Israel, living in New York and with roots across Europe, Avishai Cohen’s music is grounded in Jazz but brimming with world influences, taking in a blend of traditions, cultures, languages and styles - from Hebrew and Ladino folk songs to Bebop and Salsa. Premiering new arrangements and compositions here, his lithe bass-playing dances in and around the other instruments, trading phrases with his core trio, the orchestral elements adding a new dimension to his sound.

Catching the attention of Chick Corea in the 90s, who took Cohen under his wing after being blown away by one of his demo tapes, Avishai has grown over the past two decades into one of the most interesting and exciting voices in Jazz. These new orchestral collaborations present a new chapter in the evolution of his music – an opportunity to see the direction his dynamic sound is heading.
