Concert information
Ryan Wigglesworth, who was scheduled to conduct after the death of Oliver Knussen last year, has had to withdraw due to injury. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Philharmonic is very grateful to Moritz Gnann who has stepped in to conduct at very short notice.
In tribute to Oliver, a performance of his work ‘Flourish with Fireworks’ opens the concert.
The second half of the concert will now be Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, ‘From the New World’. In February, it was announced that the advertised world premiere of Martin Suckling’s This Departing Landscape would no longer feature in this concert and was replaced by Berg’s Three Fragments from ‘Wozzeck’.
Claire Booth, who was due to join the orchestra for Henze’s Ariosi and Berg’s Three Fragments from ‘Wozzeck’, is unable to perform due to illness. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Philharmonic thank Christiane Oelze (singing the Henze) and Allison Oakes (Berg) for taking her place at short notice.
Whilst situations beyond control have resulted in several changes to the original programme – we look forward to Dvořák's final and arguably most popular symphony, and also to welcoming two distinguished, international sopranos.
