Imagine...a dazzling and joyful display of virtuosity with Scottish Percussion sensation Colin Currie.
Prokofiev wrote his Sixth Symphony in the aftermath of World War Two, and though it鈥檚 certainly an epic, it鈥檚 far from clear that it ends in anything as simple as triumph. His 鈥楢utumnal Sketch鈥 which opens this concert is rooted in late Romanticism (composed when he was an 18-year-old composition student of the great Rimsky-Korsakov!), but there are sure signs of the distinctive voice that Prokofiev would later develop.
At the heart of this concert, Colin Currie performs a show-stopping Percussion Concerto by New York-based percussionist Andy Akiho. In Colin鈥檚 own words, he鈥檚 鈥渃ompletely blown away by the verve, joy, depth of emotion and vibrancy of colours鈥 in this music, composed in 2019. Prepare for big-hearted marimba solos, chopsticks with amplified rice bowls (!) and a groovy 鈥楪rand Finale鈥.
This concert ends at approximately 9:25pm.
