Concert Information:
The 成人论坛 Philharmonic marks the 100th anniversary of Anzac Day, the national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, with a programme of beautifully enjoyable music by Australasian composers under the direction of conductor Tecwyn Evans.
The concert begins with the Sinfonietta from Sydney-born Malcolm Williamson, before Tony Lee, who also hails from the city, performs the UK premiere of the Piano Concerto by New Zealander Gareth Farr. The concert ends with the joyous Second Symphony from another Kiwi, Douglas Lilburn.
Observed on 25 April each year, Anzac Day was originally to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli against the Ottoman Empire during World War I. The campaign was an important event in developing a national identity for New Zealand and Australia and since 1916 has been marked as a national day of remembrance in both countries.
