The Great Escape tells the – mostly – true story of a group of Second World War POWs intent on breaking out of a top-security camp by any means possible.
Featuring a stellar cast and countless iconic moments, including Steve McQueen's attempt to jump a fence on a motorbike, John Sturges' classic 1963 film also has one of the most famous and instantly-recognisable themes in all movies.
The score, written by Elmer Bernstein, is a masterclass in film music writing. Tonight's performance will be conducted by the composer's son, Peter Bernstein, and played by the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Concert Orchestra in synchronisation with the film screened in high definition.
