The warmth and humour of "The Best Man" shine through on a DVD that makes the most of this film's quality veneer.
The muted colour scheme of the movie looks great in an excellent picture transfer. There's no distracting grain to spoil the view of the pleasing eye candy on display (for both sexes) that is the fine cast.
The 5.1 sound mix is kept busy with a stream of music that makes good use of the speakers. Listen out especially for the rap that switches between the rears in chapter five.
Among the established stars in this movie, there are others who have yet to make it big but will undoubtedly do so. The cast and crew filmographies are worth having a look at to fill in any gaps in your knowledge, and the 17-minute 'Spotlight on Location' featurette will doubtless endear you to the people involved. The aim of director Malcolm D Lee was to create a movie that was born "out of a lack of seeing myself" in other black films. Hence this film has no rappers and no shootouts, which seemed to be a great relief to the cast.
