If you're a fan of Michelle Yeoh (and there must be even more after her performances in "Tomorrow Never Dies" or "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"), you'll find the DVD of "Magnificent Warriors" a very useful addition to your collection.
Made back in 1986, this title has only been available on VHS so you'll find the new DVD release somewhat of a surprise. The picture quality is both fresh and detailed. Some shots do look a little soft, but this is still a staggering improvement.
The 5.1 sound mix is similarly impressive, with obvious effort having gone into steering effects, in particular when it comes to Michelle Yeoh's biplane crossing from speaker to speaker. Additionally, both the music and various action effects are underpinned with some serious bass notes from the sub woofer.
This highly enjoyable Second World War action-adventure will no doubt please Yeoh fans, but it's the special features included on the DVD that will really satisfy. First up, there's a very comprehensive animated biography on the star, and an interview where she discuses both this film and "Supercop" too. In addition, Hong Kong Legends have found the Guy Laroche advertisement (featuring Yeoh alongside Jackie Chan) that brought her to the attention of the Hong Kong movie industry. Along with a small picture gallery, trailers, and a 'hidden' feature, this DVD represents a real treat for Yeoh devotees.
