Worcestershire climbers will have the chance to emulate Britain's most famous climber Alan Hinkes, as part of Water Aid's Challenge 8000 on 11 November 2005. Sport Martley climbing centre (6 miles outside Worcester) plays host to the event which will raise finds for the water aid charity. For the challenge, climbers will be seeking to climb the combined height of all 14 mountains, at indoor climbing centres around the country. Worcestershire climbers will try to climb the combined height of K2 (the second largest mountain in the world) Last year local climbers raised 拢3,000 and they will be hoping to beat that this year, climbing the height of the mountain Cho-Oyu in the process. Worcestershire organiser Neil Currie said "Last year we did so well that this year we've been given a much bigger mountain to climb and we need as many people as possible to rise to the challenge". If you want to get involved... School children will be taking part in the challenge from 4:30pm and the public can take part from 7:30pm.
