Tom Graveney began his first class cricket career in 1948 and went on to earn his first England cap in 1951 against South Africa.

However, some unfortunate early test dismissals meant that his England career foundered for a while.

During this time he concentrated on his County game, captaining Gloucestershire and scoring some of his 42,911 county runs - as well as becoming Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1953.

He moved to Worcester in 1961 and stayed for ten seasons, scoring 13,169 runs and contributing to his first-class batting average of 44.91.

During this time his England career revived when he rejoined the team in 1966 at the age of 39.

This was to prove a fruitful period for Graveney, during which he earned 24 of his 79 caps and scored 4 of his 11 test centuries, soundly dismissing any earlier doubts about his international batting potential.

Graveney also had some success as a legbreak bowler, taking 80 first-class wickets and putting in the occassional stint as a wicket-keeper.

After leaving Worcestershire, Graveney went on to play for Queensland, as well as working as a TV summariser for the 成人论坛.

His nephew David is Chairman of the England selectors.
