CULLODEN
On the B9006, 5m East of Inverness.
With National Cycle Routes 1 & 7 in the area.
Culloden battlefield is under the care and supervision of the
National Trust of Scotland. The visitor centre there has a permanent
Jacobite exhibition. Other features include Living History presentations
(held during the summer only), the original Leanach Cottage (around
which the battle was fought), the Graves of the Clans, the Well
of the Dead (where many clansmen were slaughtered whilst quenching
their thirst or washing their wounds), and the Memorial Cairn,
which bears the inscription: 鈥淭he Battle of Culloden was fought
on this moor 16th April, 1746. The graves of the gallant Highlanders
who fought for Scotland and Bonnie Prince Charlie are marked by
the names of their clans.鈥
