The Displacements

The Displacements

Four guys from Leicestershire with a mutual love of The Clash make up this local band. Find out a bit more about Nick, Joe, James and Andy and take a listen to their music...

"The scene in Leicester is picking up a buzz right now, but it just doesn't get the recognition it deserves from the industry types. "

The Displacements

Who are the Displacements?

The Displacements are a bunch of lads doing what they do best.

So how did you all meet?

We met in the hot summer of 2002 through a mutual love of The Clash at Leysland High School.

Who or what are your greatest influences?

We have a wide range of influences, everything from The Stone Roses and Stevie Wonder, to The Libertines and Bob Marley. Probably mostly women though…

What do you make of the music scene in Leicester?

The scene in Leicester is picking up a buzz right now, but it just doesn't get the recognition it deserves from the industry types. We say take them on, on our own! Ooo arrrr.

Who are your favourite local bands at the moment and why?

Showaddywaddy, because they're doing the England World Cup song and its bound to be cracking - maybe, Hey Eng-er-land!

Favourite song you've written?

Would probably have to be Hey Jane, it’s fun to play and the lyrics are easy to pick up and we love the sight of the crowd singing our songs back to us.

Where are your favourite Leicester hangouts?

Brighton Beach is always good when we want to dance to some mighty soul music, the Firebug is a pretty decent place for a drink and it plays some quality music, and also Mosh is good for a little dance at the weekend.

Best gig so far?

All of them are pretty special, so we can't really narrow it down to one, but the bonfire night gig in 2005 was wicked, when we played to more than 4000 people with a bonfire in the background to keep us toasty.

Worst gig?

We will tell you when it happens.

If you could each have a superpower what would it be?

Nick: The pulling power of Tom Jones.
Andy: The ability to write good songs over and over again, oh wait…
Joe:Ìý Invisibility.
James: The ability to turn back time so I could see the Beatles at Shea stadium in the 60s.

Best and worst things about living in Leicestershire?

The best thing is that it’s easy to get to anywhere else, there is no worst thing about Leicester, it is the shizzle.

What would be in your ultimate sandwich?

To be stuck in between Mischa Barton and Scarlett Johansson.

Which school did you go to and what was the best thing about it?

Countesthorpe College, and the best thing about it is Frank Keggers (rebel of all rebels).

Worst habits?

Not answering interview questions properly.

Naughtiest thing you did as a child?

Nick: Killed JFK… true story.
Joe: Stole some chipsticks.
James: I once trashed a glockenspiel
Andy: I really still can't talk about it…

Check back next week to hear another blast of the latest local talent.
