They tells about their influences, gigs and their worst habits. Meet Dave, Gray, Mike and Jon... Who are The Authentics? We're Dave, Gray, Mike and Jon, a heavy rock quad who try and mix the best parts of rock, pop, metal, punk, reggae and whatever else with catchy hooks and great melodies to create songs that you'll go away with stuck in your head for days...
So how did you all meet?Dave: I met the band through an ex member at work. He introduced me to the guys and the relationship blossomed! Gray: Some very very drunken nights of yonder past. We've all been in bands around the Leicester scene for a while, and I suppose you just get to know people... Mike: Jon and me met at De Montfort University whilst drinking鈥 mean "studying". Jon: I joined Gray's band Scarlet Trip for a while before stealing him for The Authentics! Who or what are your greatest influences?Gray: They tend to change daily but I'd have to say The Wildhearts, 3 Colours Red and The Backyard Babies... But there's so much more than that. Mike: That's true, although we love our American bands, we try to write about everyday British stuff so I like classic artists like The Beatles, Stones, Bowie and The Smiths. Dave: The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Dave Grohl. Jon: You can't go wrong with The Clash. Also Metallica, Aerosmith and the Chilli Peppers are my childhood heroes and my family and my fellow friends are my influence鈥 get inspired by my band-mates everyday.听 Favourite song you've written?Mike: Right now I think new ones like Heartbreaker and Behind the Mask are kick-ass! Gray: It's gonna be a tussle between 'Natural Born Thriller' or 'Supercharged'. Dave: Back Down to Earth. Jon: I'm excited about License to Chill and Don't Disappear off our new album coming out in October as we're starting to push all our styles together and its making us a stronger and better band.听 What do you make of the music scene in Leicester?Gray: There's a lot of talent out there and some cracking artists but then there's still the usual group who are only there to disrupt and generally annoy people! Mike: Yeah, it's a shame that it's only known for Kasabian right now as the mix of different bands from all genres is right up there with Manchester and London's scenes. Jon: Great! The general public don't appreciate how many amazing bands there are in Dave: There are some great live bands but it's a shame there isn't more support. Where are your favourite Leicestershire hangouts?Dave: Firefly, Rutland and Derby, Cafe Bruxelles, Fan Club, Retribution. Jon: Twisted Toucan has a chilled vibe and Barcode (best curry in Leicester) as well as Firefly, The Attik and Alcatraz/Sector5 - please hurry and re-open it! Mike: I like Firefly, Firebug and The Office. Best gig so far?Mike: I have to thank Ollie at DMU for asking us to be the first band to play at the new university union twice! That was quite special. Gray: My fave so far was playing the Bulldog Bash last summer. It was our first major festival and something I'd wanted to do for years. Dave: There's been so many. The last CD launch was rockin' though. Jon: We drove all the way to Penrith (near the Scottish border) after a Leeds gig once in search of a party, which was a great road trip! Worst gig?Gray: I've got a bit of a temper so if any little things get in the way of me putting on a good show they usually amount to me breaking stuff... Jon: We were supposed to play The Social in Nottingham and turned up at 19:30 with all our kit to find they'd cancelled the gig without telling us. After arguing with the venue for some time and ringing up venues for a last minute gig we went back to the car to find we'd got a car-parking ticket to add insult to injury! Mike: Yeah, that was Mickey Mouse! Dave: The White Horse, Leamington Spa has been a difficult one. Best things and worst things about living in Leicestershire?Jon: The City has great cultures and different sights and sounds and it's also in a central location which makes touring around the UK easier. Unfortunately though it's a three hour drive away from my home, friends and family in Sussex. Mike: As I can't drive I love the fact I can walk everywhere and usually quicker than most people can drive on the one-way system! What do you think your life will be like in 10 years time?Gray: I'll let you know... Mike: If we're true rockers, we'll be dead but I hope to be alive! Dave: Still rockin', hopefully more cash though. Thirty-four is still young enough to be living the dream, right? Jon: I'll be married to my gorgeous girlfriend with three cool kids and touring the world with this band. The band also co-owns a tropical island where bands can go and record and hangout with each other too! Most annoying habit?Gray: Burping...or...oh no strike that...It's my way of always being able to say the worst possible thing at the worst possible moment in the worst possible situation. Dave: I'm late for EVERYTHING! Jon: I'm extremely lazy and suck my thumb when I'm tired! Mike: I'm a slave-driver to the above three band members!
