The Church of St Nicholas is Leicester's oldest place of worship.

But now the roof is leaking and its clock is broken.

The听bill runs into thousands, but without the necessary repairs, we could lose an important part of Leicester's heritage.

As the oldest place of worship in Leicester, previous rainstorms have cause huge leakages through the Victorian part of the roof.

The cost of these repairs is huge, but fortunately English Heritage has heard the congregation's prayers and is giving a grant of 拢63,000 towards the restoration.

In Need of a Prayer!

Not only is the roof beginning to crumble, but the church clock (which is wound by hand) decided to chime for its last time over 18 months ago.

Too much strain on the centuries old winding mechanism brought it to its untimely end. The cost for these repairs is a lot less and should only be a couple of hundred pounds.

This does however leave 拢10,000 to be raised by the small congregation. No small feat some may say, but the congregation has faith in the people of Leicester (who have helped raise money for repairs before).

With some generous contributions and timely prayers hopefully the Church of St Nicholas will be restored to its former glory.
